About Me
“There are only two kinds of music; ‘good’ and the other kind.’â€
Jazz great Duke EllingtonK Dub represents the vanguard of young innovators helping to define the Hip Hop music scene. This New Jersey raised ‘sound architect’ is set on adding his unique signature to the great success of famed producers like I.D. 4Windz, Locsmif, Ta' Raach, and others. Rooted in contemporary underground hip-hop, soul, house, and jazz, his production style alternates between minimalist DJ break beats, saxophonist John Coltrane’s spiritual jazz collages, and everything in-between.A product of Princeton, NJ, Webber’s first musical development sprung from Princeton’s crossroads location between the hip-hop centers of New York, and Philadelphia, its sister city. In addition, he was fortunate to be mentored by many of the artists and DJs who passed through Princeton University station WPRB. While only in high school, he was spinning hip-hop and house at the station, and at parties organized by Station DJs. He was also inspired by artists such as the Roots, Artifacts, and Scienz Of Life, who promoted their projects at WPRB. Several Student DJs, many of whom are now involved in the music business, also included him in ANTIDOTE, a music production studio and “Poisoned Ivy,†a once student run label. During this time he was also an accomplished athlete rising to become a high school All-American in basketball and football. But the pull of becoming an artist was more powerful than the lure of the NBA.
Citing music production heroes like Jay-Dilla (Slum Village), Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, Premier, Jazzy Jeff, and Tribe Called Quest’ producers UMMAH, K Dub's personal approach to producing is captured in the remarks of jazz innovator Duke Ellington who said “there are only two kinds of music, good and the other.†In this vein Ray Charles has embraced country music, jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis teamed with rocker Pink Floyd, and K Dub has ‘recycled’ influences from alternative rock, Latin, classic rock, reggae, hip hop, jazz, house, and whatever came his way to create his signature sound known as JazzyFunkySoul. The music community should stay tuned for the work of K Dub, now of BEATVIZION, a young artist whose music moves inside and out of music conventions. For him music becomes a vehicle to inspire as he has been inspired, to capture our hopes and dreams, and to transcend experience.
