[Birth]
The history of SMASH THE BRAIN goes back to 1996, when Shimada (g/vo) and Yamaguchi (ds/vo) met each other. In 1997, they formed SMASH THE BRAIN without adding any other members. This irregular formation of the band made an impact in the underground scene at that time and attracted certain interests.
[Debut]Under this two-men formation, they released two 7-inch EP's (one of them being a split with a Belgian Grind Core band, AGATHOCLES) as well as participated in a few compilations released by various overseas labels. Following these, they released the first album "KEEP OUR WAY!!" in 2000 on Amuse DCR label. The sound was what one should call Hard Core - each of the two's scream/death voices were effectively utilized on the punkish beat with fast fills and sometimes blast beat, along with metallic and noisy guitars strongly influenced by thrash/death metal music. After releasing this debut, they put an end to the two-men formation aiming further musical development, and recruited Kizawa (g) of a heavy rock band called DUST PORT MIXMASTER in 2001.
[Time for Progress]In 2002, after finishing recording the new album, Katano (b) joined the band, who had just left a mixture rock band called SUNEOH. Now they had the first ever bass player! The album was titled "FOREVER LASTING TWILIGHT" and released in early 2003. This was an aspiring album with many songs incorporating melancholic melodies and galloping speed, and this progress helped the band acquire many new fans. To this day, the band still plays a lot from this album live.
[Toward the Ultimate Lineup]In 2004, Yamaguchi, one of the original members and the one that came up with the name "SMASH THE BRAIN", suddenly decided to leave the band. He wanted to do something else, quitting playing in a band. Although Shimada held the key to the band's sound, losing his unique presence of screaming and playing thunderous drums would be a quite loss to the band. Yet, the band respected his will and the remaining three members started looking for much stronger lineup, putting the live activities on hold. Within a few months, however, things started showing a sign of their resurrection. First, Minamikatsu (vo) joined the band. Having known each other very well, the band was aware of his capabilities as a singer. Following this, Kamomiya (ds) joined the band who had left a Thrash Metal band . He's known and respected for the accurate and powerful drums.
[Long-waited New Album]
Upon completing the lineup, the band started rehearsing a lot, and recorded two new songs. In the winter of 2004, they released these as a demo CD "SANITY IN DISUNION + caged" and resumed playing live. In the meantime, work continued on the new songs they had written since around 2003, and in the autumn of 2005, they started recording the new album. Originally intended for a release as an EP, the recording attracted interests from SPIRITUAL BEAST, and the deal was done for the release of the third full-length album. The band made additional recordings in early 2006 to make it a full-length, and the work completed at the end of March. The worldwide release is expected to be around the autumn of 2006.
