About Me

Sakura Nozaki is a Sendai based Singer, Songwriter, MC with a 5-octave vocalrange. Her 2nd EP, "Direction", has been sold out. It sets HipHop & Jazz music along with her clear opinion towards today's socialã€€system. She was born in 1980 at Sendai City, Japan, and grew-up grooving to 70's soul music. She would sneak from her father's vinyl stash, Sakura says "I would always sing and imitate greatest singers of all times likeOtis Ledding to Lauryn Hill. I was singing all day just to kill time. I didn't have anything else I really wanted to do. It's been a lot of fun to get addicted to music." Right after her graduation from high school, she succeeded in an audition bysending a demo via email, held by a small independent label in NY and thatled her to the NYC by herself. Even though the project failed, she started her professional career in music in NY as a Pop and R&B singer at the age of 19 in 1999. She is also a former member of the YPC of New York City, with which she performed at the United Nations, the White House, Carnegie Hall and broadcast networks like CBS, NBC, FOX, NPR&WNYC Radio. After experiencing a numerous number of stage performances as a singer (including the stage performances with Jimmy Cliff, Jesse Martin and other great musicians), she was motivated to create her original sound with the gritty urban poetry and hip-hop. Right before returning her home at Sendai, she released her first 12" EP "S.F.T.H." in late 2004 and her latest EP "Direction" was released on Marchh, 2007, featuring "SPaNK" - a hardcore New York City based funk & soul band.. In 2008, Sakura will be featured in Tiempos de Lirica's upcoming album "Global sonar. She is currently hard at recording work for her third EP, that will be released in Summer, 2008.

For the current project, Ive worked with Hideshi Omachi (ba), Ben Hoffstein (key), Sam McIlvain (guitar) and Eric Johnson (dr).In 2nd EP "Direction ep", you will also hear fabulous track produced by asa (Jar-Beat Record) and funky scratch by DJ A-1(SPIN SCAANLOUS).
