How's That For a Slice of Fried Gold

About Me

I've lived in Madrid, New York and London as my main homes over the past 10 years. Just moved back from New York to London. I've travelled extensively through my work and ended up in strange and interesting places including: The Falkland Islands, Mozambique, Algeria, Sierra Leone, Chile, Ecuador, Germany, Kazakhstan (no Borats spotted), China, The Philippines, Bermuda and The Former Yugoslavia. My feet are tired now and I'm happy to be back eating fish and chips and drinking tea.I love going to concerts and seeing comedy shows. I also love going to the cinema in preference to watching videos at home.I am slightly mad but in a good Father Ted way rather than a scary, here's Johnny kind of way.

My Interests

Going to see gigs preferably in smaller venues. Cinema visits. Bar-hopping to find a good jukebox and the urge to go dancing at 2am. Cooking for friends and looking after their cats when they go on holiday. I like watching good comedy acts too. Reading a fair amount. Hanging out with friends and talking utter rubbish for hours.

I'd like to meet:

People who like off-beat comedy and movies of all genres. People who loved Shaun of the Dead and secretly practice doing zombie impressions. People who like weird films.Music obsessives of all types who enjoy catching a show and hate MSG. Guys who aren't afraid to hang out with a girl and still be able to talk shite about music and film without automatically thinking its a date.Anyone who loves Bill Hicks or Eddie Izzard. If you like Adam Ant then we really need to find some white facepaint and dance.Come on feel the noize (spelling c/o Wolverhampton).

Music:

In no particular order: Beatles, Paul McCartney, ELO, OK Go, Travelling Wilburys, Beautiful South, Ryan Adams, Brendan Benson, The Killers, Keane, Tom Petty, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Billy Bragg, Adam Ant, Aimee Mann, Crowded House, Neil Finn, Manic Street Preachers, Faith No More, Sisters of Mercy, Grant Lee Buffalo, REM, Oasis, Eagles, Rhett Miller, Ash, Snowpatrol, Coldplay, Radiohead, Blur, Waterboys, Pogues, The Smiths, The Lilac time, a lot of 80's crap etc. etc.

Movies:

Shaun of the Dead, Star Wars (the original - Jar Jar sucks), The Fifth Element, Donnie Darko, The Big Blue, Bridget Jones, Dusk Til Dawn, 28 Days Later, Repo Man, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Yellow Submarine, Trees Lounge, Garden State, High Fidelity, Serenity, The City of Lost Children, The Lost Boys, Grosse Point Blank, Hot Fuzz, Slither, Hamlet, Roman Holiday, Kind Hearts and Coronets, Dracula, The Lady Killers (the original), Miss Marple movies (the originals). And lots more.

Television:

British comedy. Give me Black Books, Little Britain, The Fast Show, Coupling (yay Jeff), Blackadder, The Mighty Boosh, Father Ted, Never Mind the Buzzcocks with a sprinkling of Look Around You and Spaced.I also like crime dramas - I have a warped addiction to CSI (the original one. Also keen on geeky series like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly.

Books:

Authors: Christopher Fowler, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, John Irving, SE Hinton, Oscar Wilde, Christopher Brookmyre, Charles de Lint, Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Banana Yoshimoto, Kathy Reichs, Michael Dibdin, Neil Gaiman, Lisa Gardener, Michael Connolly, Roald Dahl etc.

Heroes:

I'm quite partial to a meatball one.

Dancing on the Feet of Drummers

As opposed to Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.  It was a fun night for me with some drinks consumed and as usual I got the dancing bug and didn't care how much like a Dad dancer I looked.&nb...

Lost In The Minerva

The Minerva is a pub in a place called Plymouth.  Its most likely changed beyond recognition but for a while at the end of the 80's/beginning of the 90's it was the hub.  Its the smallest pu...

My heart broke a little bit

Paul Hester killed himself. Someone said it better than me - the heart and soul of Crowded House is dead. Neil Finn wrote the songs but that little band was a joy to watch because of the chemistry b...
