MUSIC LIVES FOREVER !!!

About Me

The first time I have heard Lord G play was when he came to the Sona bar. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a pretty slamming night. It was Inbeat Records' anniversary party, the place was just crammed full of people and most of them were only partially clad.
The DJ booth was crowded with trainspotters, and getting through the dancefloor to the booth was like running the gauntlet; to avoid losing an eye to some girl's flailing arm, one had to bob and sway to the beat in an attempt to anticipate every person's next hip dance move. Everybody was grooving, even the people who are generally too cool to groove. Lord G had the place on fire.
We've heard the story before: Latin boy growing up listening to salsa and merengue music in NYC's Lower East Side receives his first pair of turntables at age 15 and becomes a DJ. Lord G began his career listening to NYC's greats like Louie Vega, David Morales and Frankie Knuckles, spending weekends in the legendary Sound Factory bar.
His early gigs consisted of small house parties and the occasional wedding reception, but perseverance always pays off and in 1993, at the ripe age of 19, he began playing at the Latin house-oriented night "Café Con Leche." Soon after that the promoters of "Café Con Leche" offered G a Thursday night spot at Sound Factory bar. That, as they say, was only the beginning.
Since that time Lord G has travelled the world over, from Japan to Ibiza to Paris to London and back to New York. He programmed a weekly radio show on WKTU every Saturday and, believe it or not, even appeared on MTV's The Grind as a guest every once in a while.
"Latin house music has been getting more and more popular over the past years, and I've always been really into that percussive sound," says G. "Yeah, I started out playing Latin house and people have associated that sound with me, but I play a lot of different styles of house music . When I play I just really try to feel it out, see where people want to go."
G's approach to the whole DJ thing is pretty laid back and relaxed, which is not to say that he doesn't take it seriously, but more that he's really comfortable with his style and his idea of how to work a crowd. "I try to work with the time slot that I'm given and kind of build up the energy. It's a show, and it's not so much about me, it's about the people who come to hear me play. I feed off of that."
When he's not flying to the Orient or Europe, Lord G is working in studio. To date he has remixed Björk's "I Miss You", El General's "Samba Hey," Enrique Iglesias " Rhythm Devine", a Melanie Daniels remix for Nervous records and a dub for a Morales tune called "Joy", Negrocan (a brazilian band), and the Tokyo Ska Orchestra. As Well as his own productions. It would seem that the lord of Latin house has his sights set on the title of king.
