About Me

"Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears - it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. But for many...music is even more - it can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity."
- Oliver Sacks.
James Skyy was born in Sacramento, CA on July 20th. From the start it was inevitable that music would always be a part of his life. Having played classical and jazz piano for 10 years and violin for about 8 years; a passion for music was in his blood. Music came naturally to James and he needed it to live and keep life simple and uplifting.
James started DJing in November of 2005 after spinning at a college block party. Knowing nothing about DJing he stepped behind the decks and for the first time felt an amazing sense of power over how he could make people move to the music he was blaring. That night, James became hooked. One month later he had his own set of equipment and spent hours every day teaching himself everything he needed to know about how to DJ. No books, no how-to's. All James had were his decks, his mixer, his headphones, CDs, speakers and a drive to become the best psytrance DJ in the Bay Area. Just over two years later, James has been asked to spin outside the United States in places like Brazil, Russia, Japan, Canada and Germany. James is unstoppable. Nothing can stand in the way of his passion for music and bringing the music scene back to life. It's not for money, it's not for fame -- it's for the music.
In the midst of his passion for DJing, James Skyy is currently attending college with plans to transfer to Cal Poly University to obtain a Masters in Marriage/Family Counseling after receiving a Bachelors in Psychology, and a double Minor in Child Development and Marketing. So yes, James is that struggling, starving college student with a dying passion to make people dance. Help James keep the music alive so that the music scene doesn't die out!!
Notice: the music in the music player are recorded live from his DJ sets. He is a DJ and nothing more. He does produce music, but his produced work is not in his music player as of right now. Please do not take the music as his own, it will create unwanted legalities with the original artists. Thank you.

My Interests

Music:

Influences: The biggest influence on James Skyy would have to be Acacia for always being there and supporting his addiction to spinning psytrance. She inspires James to always push himself to the fullest and never back down. Acacia has been there through the best and the worst, and either way she was there dancing and groovin, beaming smiles at him and setting an awesome vibe on the dance floor. Their love and friendship has only blossomed more and more as time goes on and James wouldn't be nearly as far as he is now without her and he thanks her endlessly. Thank you so much Acacia for being a big part of James' life!

Another big shout out to two major influences: Jacquelyn and Stony. Thank you so much for having James come out to Texas! That weekend was a turning point for James and it helped him become more confident that he knew what he was doing and helped him realize that he could actually make people dance. Your generosity and kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you so much!

Lastly, but surely not least, James Skyy would like to send a huge thank you to James J. Their friendship sparked up in 10th grade and has only gotten stronger and stronger. They've been to hell and back but either way they both came out of it smiling and laughing about it. James J helped James Skyy learn a few tricks and tips on how to become a better DJ and the sets you hear now are still using those tips and tricks. Much love is sent to James J in Noord-Brabant, Netherlands and you should all be so lucky to have a friend like that. Much love to you, James J! Keep the floor rockin with your wicked sets!!!
