Tha' GoodFellasIf success ever goes to the heads of top jocks Romeo & Dejai, memories of their days at Blockbuster Video should put their egos on pause. "I still have the uniform in my closet as if I have to go to work tomorrow," insists DeJai, one of Tha' Goodfellas on 93.5 KDAY (KDAY/KDAI-FM) in Los Angeles. And if that doesn’t help them stay humble, "Call home," advises Romeo, also a former Blockbuster employee. Tha' Goodfellas host evening drive on 93.5 KDAY from 6-10 PM weekdays. Vibe Magazine (September 2002) declared Tha' Goodfellas "rulers of the airwaves" in the magazine's "9th Annual Juice Issue of the Hottest People, Places & Things."Once again this season, Tha' Goodfellas created the theme song for Comic View, BET's wildly popular and hilarious showcase for comedians. You can also hear Romeo & DeJai when you're in the air, Tha' Goodfellas host in-flight audio channels for both Continental Airlines and Air New Zealand.Despite their newfound fame, the road to success was paved with plenty of potholes for the pair. Rewind to St. Louis, Missouri, where Romeo & Dejai first met in the 7th grade. A budding visionary even in middle school, Romeo asked DeJai to join his music group, which already had 30 members. "We were like Parliament back then," Romeo recalls. "It started out as a beautiful thing, but as time went along, you really saw whose heart was in it and who had the drive to keep going. People just started dropping like flies. The next thing I knew, it was just the two of us still standing and we just built from that. We became the Jacksons of St. Louis. " Romeo proudly remembers, winning countless contests and pumping up audiences at high schools and universities.Buoyed by their hometown success, Romeo & DeJai made the time-honored trek to LA taken by countless other Hollywood hopefuls. But the current quickly swept them under with the often-replayed story line of the little fish in a big pond. Plans to write tracks for a Grammy-winning producer fell through. Offers of a recording contract from a major label never materialized. Romeo & DeJai's musical ambitions were sidetracked for nearly two years. "We came out here on promises," Romeo wistfully reflects, "but we fell flat on our faces at first."
