The Oath We Took is currently a three piece band from Grayslake,IL. Matt Stefani and Jonathan Schiffley, long time friends, began playing together in 2001 and finally created the band in August of 2006. Unfortunately, the same month, Jonathan left Illinois and went to Arizona for his first semester at Arizona State University. Although separated by desert and mountains, they stuck together and Jonathan decided to come home in December to remain in Grayslake. TOWT kept working together releasing an album in January called "The Winter Passing," which led to them playing an opening set for the Take Action! Tour 2007 featuring The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. In April of 2007, Jonathan decided to take a break from The Oath We Took and play bass for local rock band, Beg Me Beautiful. After 7 months Jonathan felt it was necessary to leave Beg Me Beautiful, attempting to create a solo project. Within a few weeks, Matt and Jonathan started playing again and decided to keep The Oath We Took going, with hopes of making it bigger and better than ever before. In March of 2008 after they began playing shows again, Matt and Jonathan began to search for other members. They eventually asked Tim Dernick, a long time friend, to play bass guitar and help write for the band. His brilliance came to life as they wrote their first song as a trio, "Dustin Hoffman's Cheeseburger Telephone." As they continued their search, Kevin Clark was found in the crowd of a local show, inquiring about becoming TOWT's drummer. His pheonominal drum skills would add the final piece to the puzzle. And if you are wondering, YES this is the same Kevin Clark from the movie School of Rock! Unfortunately after only 2 shows with TOWT, Tim decided to leave the band. Although missing a bassist, Matt and Jonathan knew the show must go on. Thank you to all who've supported The Oath We Took over the last few months as we've grown stronger than ever before!
