Her favourite band is NoFX/ She rocks out to the Misfits/ She goes to punk rock shows and rocks out like me. She was queen at D and D/ Plays arcade games with me/ Reads comic books and watches Star Wars.â€
The above is from Ewoks, a track from the new recording from Whitby’s Nose Over Tail. It’s about a girl as nerdy as the writer and his happiness at finding her.
N.O.T. is a band I am particularly excited by. They are not the most proficient players and the vox is not the clearest but the youthful enthusiasm more than compensates. They have that 77 spirit that sits at the core of punk.
With a couple of members still in high school and the others in McJobs, the band came into being in ‘06 when brothers, drummer Smev and Sean Isaacs (guitar), informed by The Ramones and Bad Religion, formed the band. Another pair of brothers, David (vocals/bass) and Adam Pendrith (guitar), brought the metal.
Curiously the punk metal this area is known for is shortchanged here. While the bands Nose Over Tail likes include Hostage Life and Attack In Black, I would place them on the same stage as Lowest Of The Low. Their tracks have a similar pop punk vibe with an undercurrent of Queen St. folk. Their sense of humour is stamped all over the record and while I have yet to see them live, I’ll bet their gigs are gags. The disc is ready for public display and hopefully merch will be available soon, maybe at Standing 8 Count on Simcoe Street.
