From Cotton to Satin
He weaves gossamer and moonbeam
into forms of concrete and steel.
He molds and shapes the images
of fantasies that, to him, are real.
He's constrained by what he sees;
His perception is limited by life.
He's preoccupied maintaining the seesaw balance
on the edge of existence's knife.
Sometimes, thinking he has insight,
he blunders and makes claims that arent true.
He charts his path three steps ahead,
to make up for a misstep or two.
He fears, he worries, he trips himself up;
He avoids problems that arent really there.
He fights or flees from hideous monsters
that breathe imaginary air.
This, the man thats just been described,
is me--all pretense removed.
All I can say is that I was made this way,
but hopefully, with time, I'll improve.
