I was born and raised in Manila, but have spent most of my adult life in California. The complexities in my life journey and the friends that I made along the way have both helped shape me into the person that I have become.
I enjoy mindless television game shows just as much as I appreciate musicals and operas. I laugh at silly knock knock jokes but I also appreciate Oscar Wilde's humor. Novels by Lualhati Bautista and F. Sionil Jose move me just as much as writers such as Marguerite Duras and Alberto Fuguet have impacted my way of thinking. I am equally excited by the poems of Francisco Balagtas and Allen Ginsberg and Charles Baudelaire.
I listen to Mozart. But I also listen to MCSolaar and to Jay-R and to the Mariachi. I enjoy Lino Brocka and Mel Chionglo films. I also enjoy films by Francis Ford Copolla, Alfonso Cuaron, Krzysztof Kieslowski and Zhang Yimou. I enjoy watching the Ballet Folclorico Mexicano as well as dance performers in Philippine noontime TV entertainment shows. I enjoy the plays by Samuel Beckett, Bertolt Brecht and Ugo Betti. I like the works of Rolando Tinio.
I enjoy soap operas. I also enjoy making fun of people who enjoy soap operas.
I love the taste of wine just as much as I love beer. I am reserved ... but I also get loud at a football game or a volleyball game or a basketball game or a gymnastics match. I like having cappuccino in the mornings and I crave for isaw whenever I am away from my hometown. Parisian crepes are also among my favorites.
I sleep with candles lit at night.
I love the tranquility of the beach but I can also dance to the madness of the city. I can be friendly and snobbish in the same breath.
