Second Law of Thermodynamics

About Me

Sometimes, I feel I'm too smart for my own good. Other times, I'm convinced that I am not nearly as smart as I think I am.And my real fear is that both of these are true.Smart-ass, borderline passive-aggressive, slightly Neurotic but rarely boring. I'm torn between a desire to improve myself, and a fear that doing so is ultimately pointless.Ok, enough pontificating. The real skinny is this: A few years back, I took a long look at my life and didn't like what I saw, so I started changing it. I went back to school to get a degree, and recently moved to the Dallas area where I go to UT-Dallas. I've been trying to improve other aspects of my life, with mixed results. But the key is to keep trying, I guess. Or so the voices keep telling me.

My Interests

I'm a bit on the nerdy side. Strike that; I'm a LOT on the nerdy side. I like movies, books (both fiction and non-fiction), playing pool or poker with friends, going to Vegas to gamble and see the shows, etc. Not very big on the bar/club scene. I don't drink (no moral objection against it, it's just not for me), and you would be surprised how boring bars and clubs are when you're stone cold sober.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet a woman who is smart, funny, kind, sweet, and has more depth than a wading pool. Unfortunately, this kind of woman usually wants nothing to do with me.Also, she'd have to read. Books, that is; the latest copy of Cosmo doesn't count. And at least a modicum of interest in the arts. Doesn't have to be artsy-fartsy, just able to occassionally go see something like Cirque du Soleil or maybe Spamalot =)

Music:

Exceedingly ecclectic. Whatever I'm in the mood for at the time, which can be anything from early 80s to A Perfect Circle to Frank Sinatra, and everything in between. Not big on country or rap, at least not the stuff being put out now. Basically, if it's good, I'll listen to it.

Movies:

Big fan of movies. I like everything but sappy romances and crappy horror films. Some of my favorites over the years have been Trainspotting, When Harry met Sally, American Beauty, Shakespeare in Love, Layer Cake, etc etc. I also have a penchant for the classics; I'll watch almost anything with Cary Grant or Bogart.

Television:

I love my TiVO. Keeps me from having to watch crappy TV. What I generally record: Deadwood, Entourage, Carnivale, Rome, My Name is Earl, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Good Eats, and Robot Chicken.

Books:

As a teen, I read all the sci-fi/fantasy nerd stuff. As I grew older, I read more mainstream stuff, and even some non-fiction. Good authors I have enjoyed: William Gibson, Arturo Perez-Reverte, Neil Gaiman, James Patterson, tons more.

My Blog

Ruining it

I really wish that particular subset of guys who insist on being asshats would stop fucking it up for the rest of us.The women know who I'm talking about.  The guys who randomly send letters like...

Fast Times

The fall semester doesn't start for another week, so I have a lot of free time on my hands lately.  So yesterday, I looked through my DVD collection for something to watch, and decided on an old ...

Myspace Weirdness

So I'm checking my Myspace, and I notice that I have 14 friends listed, which is very odd because I only ever added 6 friends.  Makes me really wonder about this system sometimes.    ...

Where's the line?

So here's a question I've been thinking about for a few weeks now.  Where exactly is the line between being curious and being a creepy stalker?   The reason I ask is due to my 'Favorites' li...

On another note:

I'm seriously beginning to question this whole Myspace thing.  The more profiles I look at, the more depressed I get with regards to the human condition.  I am becoming hopelessly convinced ...

Girls Girls Girls!

I am apparently a certified chick-magnet.  Within 15 minutes, I got NINE different friend requests, all from hot blondes who looks suspiciously similar.  Every single one of them was VERY IN...

Relocation

So, it's been 4 months and I am safely ensconced here in the greater Dallas area, and I've discovered some interesting things:   First, the term "feeder road" (used to describe the road that runs...
