I'd like to meet:
Pelé & thank him for making me believe that Ireland can one day win the soccer World Cup against the odds just like the time he came off the bench to play with a broken arm for the Allies against the Nazis to score with that inspirational bicycle kick in "Escape To Victory".Muhammad Ali & thank him for all the memorable quotes & for all the film footage we have of him encouraging children to make the right choices in life by listening to their parents/guardians & to their consciences.Gandhi & thank him for turning the other cheek.Basil Fawlty & thank him for raising the bar for comedians who aspire to be funny as well as zany.Homer Simpson 'cause if he were real he'd have you in stitches all the time & i'd approach him about getting an apprenticeship from him in shirking.
Music:
I like bands that parody the excesses of Rock 'n Roll like Spinal Tap & Tenacious D & to a far lesser extent, The Darkness. I'm also a Power Ballad type of guy. Irrespective of genre, I'll like a song if it has melody. Artists that I believe fall into this radio-friendly category are Eminem, Kanye West, Eric Carmen(All By Myself), Jim Diamond(I Should Have Known Better), John Farnham(You're The Voice), Scorpions(Wind Of Change), Queen, The Beatles, Abba, The Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Heart, Hall & Oates(You Make My Dreams), Air Supply(All Out Of Love), Boy Meets Girl(Waiting For A Star To Fall), Peter Cetera formerly of Chicago(Glory Of Love from The Karate Kid 2), Foreigner, Van Halen, Toto, REO Speedwagon, Whitesnake, Randy Newman, Leo Sayer, E.L.O., George Harrison(Got My Mind Set On You), Songs from Sesame Street & The Muppets & The Simpsons, Barry White, Joey Scarbury(Theme from The Greatest American Hero: Believe It Or Not..., Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, The Village People & Survivor.
Movies:
Trains, Planes & Automobiles, Midnight Run, Trading Places, All The Supermans, Batmans & Spidermans, All the Trilogies: Back To The Future, Indiana Jones, Star Wars(First & Second Comings), Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Jim Carrey vehicles, The Rocky Anthology, The trio of Rambo movies, the many sharp comedic turns by The Marx Bros. in their movies & anything featuring Will Ferrell.
Television:
My favourite programme with the greatest staying power of 'em all is The Simpsons. Homer Simpson, Ned Flanders, Montgomery "Monty" Burns, Principal Skinner, Moe Szyslak, Apu, Krusty The Clown et al are LEGENDS. Others that I enjoy are Friends, The King Of Queens, Veronica Mars, Arrested Development, Smallville, sketches involving Borat from Da Ali G show & The Sopranos is top-notch.
Books:
I'm not bragging but I've never read a book in my life apart from Jack Charlton World Cup diaries. Most of my reading is confined to critics' reviews in T.V. magazines or nutritional information on cereal boxes.
Heroes:
Jesus Christ, Allah, Moses, Gandhi, Buddha, Homer Simpson, Superman, Pelé, Muhammad Ali, Mother Teresa, Virgin Mary, B.A. Baracus, My Mammy/Mummy/Mommy & Daddy, Snoopy(Charlie Brown's dog from the comic strip Peanuts), Basil Fawlty & Sam The Springer Spaniel who was my personal trainer & confidant.
