RED AM is the University of Essex's student radio station. Its hard working and devoted volunteers create high quality programming for the students of the University for no other reason than that they enjoy doing it.
Originally being founded as University Radio Essex (URE) in 1971(approx), RED AM was one of the very first student radio stations in the UK.

There are many ways you can get involved at RED. One of the most common is to present your own show. However, don't worry if this is all new to you, as you'll be trained in-house by our very own trainers, and kitted out with your own jingle to give your show that professional edge.
We cater for all types of shows - whether you're a DJ who likes to spin the latest dance cuts, someone who's got that 'personality' edge or you've just got a lot to say, then there's a place for all that and more at RED - if you've got an idea for a show, we can help make it happen for you.
Perhaps you're not so keen on being on the 'front line' and presenting, but still want to get involved? Not a problem! As with any radio station it's about more than just presenting - we have opportunities ranging from listening to music and helping select the station's playlist, to helping produce jingles, to getting involved with the station's publicity - and much more. If you're interested in getting involved in these things and like the idea of having a good time, then RED is most definitely the place for you.
