Dr.Michael Eric Dyson, B.B. King, Julian Bond, Jeffrey Wright.
We wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,— This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile, And mouth with myriad subtleties. Why should the world be overwise, In counting all our tears and sighs? Nay, let them only see us, while We wear the mask. We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries To thee from tortured souls arise. We sing, but oh the clay is vile Beneath our feet, and long the mile; But let the world dream otherwise, We wear the mask! ---Paul Laurence Dunbar."It's not who we are underneath.......it's what we do that defines us." ----Rachel Dawes
Most everything...from jazz to hip hop. Miles Davis is soothing in the most unsettling of ways. John Coletrane is also an excellent source of comfort. Ella Fitzgerald........Charlie Parker.....Thelonious Monk....I tend to favor the traditional, although I don't have a problem with some of the modern artists performing on the contemporary scene.The Dungeon Family, Field Mob, Ice Cube, Mos Def....Method Man.....the sounds of a skilled turntablist can be hypnotic..... R&B is in worse shape than hip hop right now. Jill Scott is amazing and gorgeous.
Rachelle Farrell has such expression.......supple and strong: a vocal acrobat. Teena Marie melts me with certain notes........

Scrubs is hilarious.....now that the writer's strike is over, they will be able to have a series finale and wrap up properly....unlike GIRLFRIENDS: it's a disgrace that they won't get a proper sendoff.....Sheryl Lee Ralph has the deepest dimples around....almost as deep as Lauren London's. I can't wait for KNIGHT RIDER to hit tonight. Carpoolers was iffy, but it won't make it past the ripples of the strike....WALMart has decided to drop the DVD format and roll exclusively with BluRay: expect the standard dvd to go the way of the dodo, MC Trouble, and betamax. The YOUNG and the RESTLESS = totally wack.. They went through the trouble of having a major level explosion.....and nobody worth anything perished in the event. It kinda pissed me off, I won't even lie about it. In addition to having a staff of fantastic writers, FRASIER had a cast cohesion that can only come about over time: their timing was exemplary. I'm also an avid fan of the nonscripted/reality genre: BRIDEZILLAs is drama at its finest. I haven't watched The Price is Right since Bob Barker retired. Flava is back. My eye is on HOTLANTA: she's even better in HD. Beyonce Alowishus......holla at a brother.
J. California Cooper is my absolute favorite author. I also admire the works of Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Bebe Moore Campbell(R.I.P.), and some erotic fiction. Doctor Dyson got me reading SONG of SOLOMON. I also enjoy a good biography once in awhile.
The Unloved, the Unsung, the Unnoticed, and the Unforgiven.
