Sascha Sportzfreund Weigelt (Piraten Funk)

Born on the german island Rugen, Sascha Weigelt can look back onto more than 15 years of activity in hiphop. His first activities were releasing the independent magazine Yard (1992) and djing for the group Nonplusultra (1998) with the legendary Jokestar of Northside Tribe and Lenox. Nonplusultra called attention with their album “Kollabos” on Dominance Records featuring JoeRilla and ZM Jay. Due to numerous connections, Sascha Weigelt built up his own promotion network with artists like Dilated Peoples or Visionaries, both from Los Angeles, and Suspect Packages/ BoomBox Distribution from London, England. He is a requested independent freelancer for the european hiphop spokesmagazines Backspin and Juice and has international media skills. In 1999, Sascha Weigelt moved to the south side of Germany, the city of Munich, and touched base with the local hiphop scene.Inspired by numerous dj-sets for goodreason.de in Nurnberg, he started the Piraten Funk tape series in 2007. Taking it back to the days of old, when computers were fiction and dj's had to record their tapes live on two turntables, Sascha invites proven dj's from his surroundings, to join the caravan and show the wide scope of the hiphop culture.
