Brazil is the only nation to have competed in every FIFA World Cup tournament and they have won the tournament a record five times. Because of this status, Brazilians often refer to the national side as the Pentacampeão, literally meaning "five-time champion." Considering the two second places (1950 and 1998) and the two third places (1938 and 1978), as well as many other honours, it is considered the most successful national football team in the world.
