About Me

I'm a 31 year-old caricaturist and SOON-TO-BE-PUBLISHED (Yay!!) comic-book artist, based in Merseyside, England. I'm currently developing strips with Batman, Lobo and 2000AD writer Alan Grant for an upcoming British humour magazine. I'm also contributing stories and pin-up artwork to Approbation Comics' 'Chaos Campus' series.
I have a loving family, including a younger brother whom I don't see often enough, and some very good friends, both online and off, whom I treasure. That said, I value my own space. I've lived alone for nine years, and don't see that changing anytime soon.
I'm a wear my heart on my sleeve kinda guy, which may or may not be a good thing. I'm scrupulously honest, I try hard to always do what I believe to be right, and I'll treat you as well as you treat me. In fact, I'll probably treat you better. I'm a little (okay, a lot) neurotic, a little short-tempered and pretty loveable, if you take the time to know me. It's also becoming apparent to me that I'm hopelessly naive in a lot of ways. I'm somebody who likes to believe the best of people, and I always thought that would ensure people thought the best of me, too. But lately, I'm increasingly dispirited to have realised that's not always the case. Still, I'll carry on believing the best of people, regardless of their opinions of me. 'Cause I'm idealistic like that.

My Interests

Drawing, collecting and reading comics, listening to music, pin-up art and photography, all things monstery, wasting hours chatting to my msn buddies, avoiding responsibility, drinking too much lager in dingy clubs in Liverpool, pining hopelessly after women way out of my league, self-mutilation, panty theft, and random acts of cruelty against the aged.

I'd like to meet:

Anybody who's genuine and fun. I have been known to chat to ugly bastards occasionally, so you should be okay. Especially welcome are fellow artists, cartoonists and comics publishers. Anybody with SERIOUS queries in regards to an artistic project or commission can contact me here, too, but please bear in mind I'm not a charity. If you like my work, then you should be willing to pay for it. If that seems fair to you, then just ask!!

UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, ALL ARTWORK IS © JED RAVEN, 2007. RIP OFF MY ART WITHOUT MY EXPRESS PERMISSION, AND I'LL RIP YOU A NEW ASSHOLE, DADDY-O.'Chaos Campus' and all related characters are © and TM Bart A. Thompson. All Rights Reserved.

Music:

I mostly like rock, punk and alternative music. I dig The Damned, The Ramones, Alice Cooper, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, The Phantom Chords, The Cramps, The Doors, Iggy and The Stooges, The New York Dolls, Dead Boys, The Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks, The Anti-Nowhere League, Guns 'N' Roses, Motorhead, early Stones, early KISS, Aerosmith, Blondie, Hole, Garbage, The Raveonettes, The Nymphs, The Wildhearts, The White Stripes, The Hives, The Strokes, The Reverend Horton Heat, The Supersuckers and many, many more!!

Movies:

Most movies these days leave me cold, and there are very few I'll go out of my way to watch. Living a five mile round trip from the nearest video shop doesn't help, especially when they insist you take them back, too, grrr. I'll make an effort for the comic adaptations, though inevitably, for every 'Sin City', there are five Fantastic Fours, it seems.

I was warped early on by an overdose of horror, but horror films today rely on an overabundance of gore and gratuitous sadism. They lack the restraint, wit and panache that at one time were so synonymous with cinematic scares. If only Vincent were still around...*Sigh*

I've retained enough childhood wonder that I can still appreciate a good Disney or Pixar movie. I never really saw porn 'til I got online, just two years ago. Now I'm depressed by it's omniprescence.

I wish every film starred Jennifer Connelly.

Television:

Oh, I watch 'Neighbours', okay?? There, I said it. Lots of pretty girls, though it could do with more vampires. Let's face it, Bree's not up to snuff.
As for comedy, I like 'The Office', 'Peep Show', 'I'm Alan Partridge', 'The League Of Gentlemen', 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace', and 'The Simpsons'.

Books:

I love to buy hardback collections of old comics, especially from the 40s, 50s and 60s. I spend far too much money on them, and buy them faster than I can ever hope to read them. I also have a weakness for art books. Most of them feature naked ladies. They're educational, honest.

I wish I could get into the habit of reading novels again, but all my hard-boiled, pulp thrillers by the likes of Thompson and Willeford seem to do little more than fill my shelves these days, gathering dust and aggravating my asthma...

Heroes:

Artists:

Jack Kirby, Alex Toth, Dan DeCarlo...

Also: Will Eisner, Jack Cole, Milton Caniff, Steve Ditko, John Romita, Johnny Craig, Gil Elvgren, Jay Scott Pike, Robert McGinnis, Archie Dickens, Don Flowers, Dave Stevens, Dean Yeagle, Bruce Timm, Frank Cho, Joe Linsner, Paolo Serpieri, Boris Lopez, Jordi Bernet, Philippe Berthet, John M. Burns, Darwyn Cooke, Jaime Hernandez, Charles Burns, Mitch O' Connell, etc...

And not forgetting: Dave Vanian, Lemmy, Joey Ramone, Stan Lee, Hugh Hefner, anybody who sticks to their guns and makes something of themselves in the face of universal derision.

Oh, and the Frankenstein monster.
