Now-a-days everybody wants to rap, sing, etc, but the question at hand is "Got Lyrics?" Dem Gulz also known as the "Queenz of tha South" to local fans, have proven they have what it takes to "rap." Not only can they rap, but they are also female M.C.’s, poetic lyricists, and certified hustlers. They know how to hold the audience’s attention with their cut throat lyrics and persona.Lady Luck and Sugah Slim, who make up the group "Dem Gulz" have been rapping together for approximately 3 years and haven’t skipped a beat since. Individually they are a “force to be recon withâ€, and together they add the peanut butter to the jelly.Lady Luck entered the rapping world when she was 14, rapping on the local broadcasting station in Albany, GA; known to the local listeners as the “Who Got the Flavor†battle; which included other powerful freestyle MC’s such as Field Mob, Dark Brown & Dru, and Shock. Lady Luck’s musical influences include: Jay-Z, Lil Kim, Shawnna, Outkast, and T.I. Luck wants to bring about a change in the hip hop industry. She feels like there are not enough females let alone males making a significant impact in the industry right now. At an early age, she was brought up on hip hop music, so you can say she is well equipped to take the industry by storm. Teaming up with powerhouses such as Sugah Slim they are a “Force to Be Recon Withâ€.Sugah Slim’s original intention was not to rap, but to write poetry. She was persuaded by her rapping peer Lady Luck to formulate her powerful lyrics into the art form of rap. She has been rapping for about 2 years now, and has been writing poetry ever since 1999. As Sugah Slim would say, “Rap is nothing but a form of poetic lyrics to a beatâ€. Slim’s musical influences include: T.I., The Notorious B.I.G., Lil Kim, and 50 Cent. Her plan for the industry is to take rap and female lyricist to another level. She feels like there is currently no female lyricist in the South, and wants to be recognized as the first, along with companion Lady Luck.Dem Gulz originally known as Double S.L. got their first street buzz by releasing a response/ remix to the Trillville’s own “Some Cuttâ€. They were able to expand their current buzz by performing and opening up for big names such as: Miss B, Citty da Cookie Man, Yola, Miss Cherry, and other big time artists. In the long run, as Slim would say, “For longevity in this game, you got to gain respect and feed the hunger of the fans. If you don’t you will end up becoming another starving artist or “fadâ€. Dem Gulz see a bright and prosperous future ahead of them by remaining true to the game and themselves.
