About Me

I'm mother to the most awesome and hilarious three-year-old girl on the planet, Sofia Jane. My ever-lovin' husband, Robin is 42 going on 18, which is a better thing than one might think. I've just finished writing a book about Seattle architecture that hopefully you will all buy when it comes out in fall of 2007! But that's me now. In general, I'm a Euro-mutt; Italian, Irish, French, English and a little Dutch. My husband is Dutch and German, so our daughter represents a good portion of Western Europe. My family is scattered around the country but significant numbers are in the Pacific Northwest and Muskegon, Michigan. I don't get back there enough to see my 70-odd cousins and their kids. I think there are 100 great-grandchildren on my dad's side of the family, thanks to strict Catholic rules against birth control and those cold Michigan winters. I'm most happy at my house in my pajamas, especially when its raining hard. Coziness is key. Nervous people make me nervous, and I don't like houses that smell like soup, although my house has stunk of curry for about 3 days now. I'm allergic to dust so I hate bric-a-brac. That's probably why I love Modern architecture, it is not condusive to clutter. I can see for miles out of my living room window; it helps me get rid of headaches some times, to be able to see that far. I used to ski, I need to start again. My husbands snowboards, which still seems way cooler to a Gen-X-er like me, but I can't get the hang of it. He's going to teach our daughter to board this winter. She's fearless, she'll be a total Shred Betty. My two best girlfriends have been in my life since 1986. One of them married one of my cousins (that's hard to aviod when you have so many cousins) so now she's family too, but she lives in LA, which blows. The other lives 10 minutes from me, which rocks. I think our daughters will be giving us some blow-back from our teenage escapades sooner than we'd like to believe.

My Interests

Architecture; Art; Film; getting out of the city to the great outdoors now and then; cooking

I'd like to meet:

Fellow architecture geeks (that includes you, Brad!); blasts from the past; long lost family;NORML people; just about anyone who isn't a pedophile, ultra-conservative-right-wing-nut-job or crank head. My favorite people are focused, but don't take themselves too seriously. I think balance is the key to having a happy life...a little work, a little cocktailing, but not too much of either. I love funny people, I have a family full of them but am always happy to meet more.
