About Me

http://www.humuhumu.com
My real name is Michelle, but most of my friends call me Humuhumu.
I'm big on creating. These days I get to create stuff for a living , which is neat.
I am a tikiphile, a midcentury Polynesian Pop enthusiast. Click here if you share my passion, or if you simply want to know what the hell I'm talking about.
I take a lot of photographs ... with an emphasis on quantity, not quality. 10,000 pics and counting... don't be shy, click that link. They're there to share.
I suspect that I see the world as being about 15% better than it actually is. My life is overromanticized, oversaturated 70mm Technicolor. That's okay by me.
I made these:

I'm always happy. Really. Very rarely do I get sad, and it passes quickly. I'm Miss Mary Fucking Sunshine.t(-_-t)

My Interests

My main passions, the things I get up for in the morning, and the things that keep me up way past my bedtime: geekery & tiki .
Beyond those two things, my interests also include vintage clothing, Disneyland & Disney animation, road trips & impromptu travel, databases & programming, doing stoopid shit and making stuff. I keep a blog, with Hanford Lemoore, of our more random interests, and it's called Junkyard Clubhouse .
Some stuff I've made: this dress , this home bar , this website , this bacon costume , and the software to run this DNA sequencing facility .
If I'm in L.A., Wednesdays at Tiki-Ti . If I'm in the Bay Area, Wednesdays at Forbidden Island .
I'm inordinately fond of cheese.
But most of all, Hanford Lemoore .

I'd like to meet:

My friends list is only for people I know — friends I've actually met.Friend requests from people I don't know get deleted. If you know me from my sites, and want to add me on MySpace, that's great!
I have a special profile for that: Ooga-Mooga on MySpace

Just randomly saying "Want to be friends?" might have worked as a conversation starter in Kindergarten, but I'm looking for friendships with a little more substance these days.
That's not to say I'm not up for making new friends -- if you think we've got something in common, feel free to strike up a conversation by sending me a message.
Hey, "just want to be friends" guys -- go get to know my boyfriend first. We're a matched set. If he doesn't find you interesting, I won't find you interesting.

Music:

My cd collection is increasingly made up of mix cds made by friends who have a devotion to vinyl I frankly lack. I eagerly soak up these cds, they have turned me onto all kinds of music I wouldn't have otherwise found. I'm always happy to get another mix cd from my dear musical sherpa friends.
My favorite musical experiences all involve tiny venues, bands whose members I consider friends, and me dancing.
I just bought a ukulele. I'm terrible on it, but hey, it's a ukulele--expectations are generally low. Sometimes I put snail shells on my fingers and use them as castanets.
Luie Luie. Not Louie, Louie. Luie Luie.
Hanford is my DJ.
It is also worth noting that the song Sleepwalk is my Kryptonite.

Movies:

I've got quite the swank home theater setup, but it goes neglected these days. I just travel too much. Sadly, most of the movies I've seen in the past year have been the ones selected for me by airlines. They have terrible taste.
A few of my favorites: Box of Moonlight, Brazil, Fantasia, Sexy Beast, Three Caballeros, Amelie, Evil Dead 2, the Wallace & Gromit shorts, Bottle Rocket, Dr. Strangelove, I Am Cuba, Triplets of Belleville, Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Lone Star.

Television:

Sandra Lee's Semi-Homemade is good for laffs. And I love King of the Hill, I tell you whut.

Books:

A Prayer for Owen Meany, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Confederacy of Dunces, Sandman, The Chosen, Fifth Business, Programming Perl aka the Camel, The Book of Tiki, Molecular Cell Biology, Bill Bryson, Radix, Snow Crash, the dictionary, Budget Travel

Heroes:

Patrick O'Hara. Bob Hope. Dolly Parton. Ben Franklin. Carol Orso.

My Blog

Luie Luie -- not Louie Louie

On my MySpace profile, under Music, I have "Luie Luie -- not Louie Louie" -- my headline also said, for the longest time, "ahhhhh.... that was a Touchy." Both were an inside joke I had with Hanford. Y...

New site: Junkyard Clubhouse

Freshly minted: our new site, Junkyard Clubhouse. This is the first site that Hanford and I have created together, and we're pretty excited about it. (Coincidentally, today is also our anniversary, so...

New photo website: http://photo.humuhumu.com

I've just spent the past few days getting my 10,000 photos moved onto a new site -- not on Fotki anymore, they were swell & all, but I wanted to get fancy. Still getting used to the new setup, but...

I washed my car

I've finally done it... I've cleaned my car. I hadn't washed it in over a year. Well over a year, actually. Sam was the last one to wash it, so it must have been two years. Washing one's car is an ...

I love my new life

Those of you who truly know me know that my life while I was living in Seattle was a dream. Really, the sort of life that people every day wish they could be living--that's my life. I don't know why I...

Intentionally Poorly-Planned Travel

When I lived up in Seattle, my dream was to fly to Vegas with nothing but my ID and a debit card on me. No plane ticket purchased in advance, no hotel reservations, just show up at the airport and fig...
