About Me

Nick has run the gamut of musical styles since childhood, having studied classical guitar and piano, and playing guitar, bass and double bass in everything from punk, rock, blues and jazz bands, before acid house and hardcore convinced him that technology could be a friend to the musician - and so it was that the nineties saw Nick flitting between sub-genres of dance music like a fly on a buffet table, picking up influences and technique along the way. A three-year stint as part owner-engineer in a recording and rehearsal facility in South London gave Nick valuable production experience and a good idea of how not to run a business!
Nick started writing downtempo music as an antidote to the psy-trance that was ubiquitous in his life at that point - this music quickly caught the ears and eyes of Humphrey Bacchus, then label manager at Youth's Dragonfly Records and it's chill-out sister label, Liquid Sound Design. Several compilation releases and remixes later, Dragonfly released Nick's debut long-player as Tripswitch, entitled 'Circuit Breaker', and his reputation as a downtempo producer was sealed. Since then Nick has been in high demand with a steady stream of releases, gigs, remixes and collaborations, and is currently working on a new Tripswitch album and an album collaboration with dub maestro Gaudi.
Never one for pidgeonholing, Nick is content to 'just try and write good music'. Sometimes however the borders get blurred, and for the sake of clarity Nick has now created another persona, Codemonkey, as a channel for the heavier, breakzyer end of his output. 2 brand new Codemonkey tracks (one a collaboration with Seb Taylor, http://www.myspace.com/sebastiantaylor) have recently featured on 'Bite Me', a downloadable music expansion pack for the new blockbuster game 'Prey' by 3DRealms.
