“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends upon the unreasonable man.” G.B. Shaw
I started Fighting again!!! It's been a while, but I still think I've got it! So I have always been into boxing, and when I was 11 I had the opportunity to start training. My best friends uncle, former Olympic coach Rich Maez, started a youth program at Englewood rec center. I trained with Rich for a while, but I later moved to California, where I started training with Dick Mccarthy and Ernie Chavez at Westminster Boxing . I learned a lot at Westminster, and as I was starting to develop as a fighter, I caught the eye of one of the world's greatest boxing trainers and Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Jesse Reid . Jesse thought I had a lot of potential and offered to train me. I trained with Jesse for a couple of years and had the opportunity to get in the ring with a lot of great pro fighters, Jesse Reid Jr., perhaps my favorite sparring partner Tom Jones , IBA champ Dominick Carter. I even got to move around with former heavyweight champ Francois Botha a little. I really felt I had good potential, but I also had a nack with computers and had some opportunities to pursue a career. At the time I wanted to pursue boxing, but it was a risky bet, In boxing, you cant be good and make money, the only way to make money is to be the best. I knew too many boxers that had potential that never made it, so I opted to pursue the career path. I don't regret the decision at all, I have done really well for myself. I have built a strong reputation and am very highly regarded in my industry, and most importantly I can put food on the table and provide a good life for my kids. But I have always wondered if I ever had what it took, could I have really been a great fighter? So after my divorce I started training again. My old trainer Jesse Reid moved to Vegas and was happy to see that I wanted to train again. I am now training with Jesse at Top Rank Gym, a great gym where a lot of the best pros in the world have trained. Here is a clip of Spadafora sparring Floyd Mayweather @ Top Rank ... Jesse is in Spadafora's corner: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CeZaqKJaxYo
So I am working my ass off every day trying to get back into top shape. Jesse thinks I am ready to fight pro, so expect to see me in my first pro fight in September of this year ... wish me luck!
More about me:
I'm single (divorced) and my main focus in life is spending time with my 2 boys. I really want to be the best dad I can and give my kids all the opportunities, love and guidance that I can. My kids are far and away my number one priority. I'm also really good at my job, and I'm always trying to take my career to the next level.
My Credo (Modified from Murray v. Curlett)
I believe that heaven is something for which we should work now – here on earth for all men together to enjoy.I believe that I cannot get help solely through prayer but that I must find in myself the inner conviction, and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and enjoy it.I believe that only in a knowledge of myself and a knowledge of my fellow man can I find the understanding that will help to a life of fulfillment.I seek to know myself and my fellow man rather than to know a god. I believe that a hospital should be built instead of a church. I believe that a deed must be done instead of a prayer said. I strive for involvement in life and not escape into death. I want disease conquered, poverty vanquished, war eliminated. I want man to understand and love man.I want an ethical way of life. I believe that I cannot rely on a god or channel action into prayer nor hope for an end of troubles in a hereafter.I believe that we are our brother's keepers; and are keepers of our own lives; that we are responsible persons and the job is here and the time is now.”
