About Me

I am 26, from Iowa, and I drink a lot of Diet Mountain Dew. I graduated from Central College (Pella, Iowa) in December 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music--vocal music in particular, though I also love to play the piano and the flute. Music is my passion. I'm also a Mercy Nashville grad--July 25, 2006. It was probably the best decision of my life and I'd encourage anyone thinking about applying to the program to DO IT!I moved from Pella to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in June of 2007 and I'm liking it here. I live with 4 other women in a place called House of Hope. They offer Bible-based classes to women in the area, and they offer an option to live in the house if you're taking the classes. It's been great for me to live in a Christian community with other women. I found a church I love here--First Assembly of God in Cedar Rapids (I officially joined the church on May 18, 2008). God has been very good to me--and I love Him very much.Oh, and I like Goldfish crackers a lot. And airports. And traveling in general. But I hate minivans. I will never ever in my life drive a minivan. I don't care if I have 10 kids. I'd drive a station wagon with wood paneling before I drove a minivan.

My Interests

music, running, rollerblading, Christianity, Simon and Garfunkel, reading, nature, historical things of all sorts, always continuing to learn, psychology, Eastern European music, Sarah Michaels Peach lotion, twirling the baton (haha, yes, I still have a baton), photography, my iPod and all the music it contains, thunderstorms, arts education, good grammar and spelling (yes, I was the nerdy kid who never ever missed a spelling word...I was always kind of a nerd....and I still am.....and I'm 100% okay with that....)..

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet people who love Jesus and who aren't afraid to be themselves and stand up for what they believe in. I'd also like to meet more people my age in or around Cedar Rapids, Iowa...preferably people who are real--don't live behind a mask of any kind.

Music:

I like pretty much everything. My favorite is classic rock and older stuff like Kansas, Journey, U2, the Eagles, Billy Joel, the Doobie Brothers, Styx, and even some older old stuff like Paul Simon (and all the Simon and Garfunkel albums, of course). I sort of lost touch with the pop music scene when I spent 14 1/2 months at Mercy and just never got back into it. Yes, I also love 80's music....even the crazy stuff--it makes me smile. :-)

Movies:

The Cutting Edge, The Sound of Music, The Shawshank Redemption, Anastasia, Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer (yes, I'm serious!), Love Actually, My Best Friend's Wedding, Dirty Dancing, Aladdin, The Breakfast Club, Center Stage, While You Were Sleeping

Television:

Law and Order (SVU and CI, especially), Jeopardy, Monk, Psych, House, ER, pretty much anything they play on USA and CourtTV...........though at House of Hope, we don't get any regular TV channels--so I watch mostly movies. Stephanie Joy Van Ommeren --

Heroes:

Jesus, first of all. Also, people who stand up for what they believe even when it costs them a lot. People who aren't afraid to be different. Also, anyone who has overcome an eating disorder, depression, and anything else like that. It's hard work, but God is good. Keep pressing on!
