Winner of the Tucson Weekly's Best Movie Theater 2006!
"Oh, how we love our Loft! They feature the indiest of the indies, quirky local film fests, a weekly Rocky Horror Picture Show screening, foreign films, documentaries, classics and cult faves. The theater even manages to lure industry big-shots such as Philip Seymour Hoffman to our dusty burg on occasion. Recent Loft extravaganzas include a Buffy the Vampire Slayer sing-along, the Cine Mexico film fest and an all-night horror-movie marathon. To make matters even more delightful, you can sip a glass of wine or down a cold pint of beer while the stories unfold on the big screen. Check the Loft's Web site to stay on top of the never-ending cavalcade of cinematic stimulation."

FIRST FRIDAY SHORTS: MONTHLY SHORT FILM CONTEST - Friday, July 11th at 9:00 P.M.
Admission: $5.00 Each month's winner takes home $200!
Named "Best Local Film Event" by the Tucson Weekly Sponsored by the Tucson Film Office
On the first Friday of each month at 9 p.m. Red Meat’s Max Cannon hosts the biggest, baddest short film contest in town - just bring us your short films and we’ll play them on the largest movie screen in Southern Arizona.
FYI: In July we're moving the show to the second Friday of the month (July 11th) so you can celebrate your freedom by singing along to Team America: World Police at The Loft on July 4th at 6:00 p.m.!
In case you've never been to a First Friday Shorts show, here are the rules: We'll play anything you've made that's under 15 minutes long and is brought to us on a dvd, vhs, or mini-dv (one film per person, and dvds must be playable on a regular dvd player). Submissions are only taken on the day of the event and films are played in the order they’re received. Every film is guaranteed to play for 3 minutes, but after that the audience can call for the dreaded “gong” if they’re displeased. If the gong is struck, our intrepid host stops the film and the next movie begins. But don’t despair … if your film is gonged, you can re-work it and bring it back to see if the changes you've made have pleased the audience. This is a great way for filmmakers to try out new ideas and see how an actual audience responds, so take advantage.
Please note: Since we don't pre-screen the films we don't know what the rating on the show will be. Parents are encouraged to attend the show with their young ones.
**Big kudos to our Year 3 Showdown winner, LUKE HOWARD, who took home our $500 Grand Prize (plus the First Friday Shorts Grand Champion Wrestling Belt and a year's worth of free movies at The Loft) for his sensitive and heartwarming short, Nipple! Truly an inspiring achievement and a very deserving winner of the Best Short Film of the Year prize. The bar has been raised very high, folks ... better get to work!
... And congratulations to May's winning filmmaker, SHAUN CLAYTON (our first winner in Year 4), who thrilled the sold-out crowd with his comedy short Losing Entries! Use that $200 wisely, Shaun!
