Myspace BackgroundsMy name is Jo Ellen and I have been living in St. Joseph, Missouri for basically all my life. I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but as I came to Missouri at just 3 weeks old, I don't really think I qualified as a citizen. I went to Hyde Elementary, Spring Garden Middle School and Benton High School. I am one of those people who LOVED high school and remember it fondly. I was outgoing, maybe too much so in some cases, but they were good times.

I married my high school on-again/off-again sweetheart Kenny in July 1991. I lived in De Ridder, Louisiana for 8 miserable months and learned these things: 1) It is okay to go to WalMart in curlers, your housecoat and slippers. 2) If your car dies on the side of the road, leave it. Eventually it will rust and become part of the natural landscape. 3) Dead animals on the side of the road will have the same fate as the cars, they just make for nice furry roadsides.

Kenny and I had three children together in our 10 year marriage. Kyleigh is the light of my life. At 16 she is the greatest friend and daughter a mother could ask for. Of course she is a little mouthy, but then again she is my daughter. LOL She is super intelligent, a talented singer, and passionate about literature. My twin sons Tristyn and Kalyb are the center of most things here at home. At 12, they are both fully defined in their disabilities and have several needs each. Being born at 3 months premature, they are fighters. They still take on their Cerbral Palsey that way and though Kalyb is also Autistic and Tris has behavioral problems, we get through each day.

After my divorce I tried a few jobs and finally decided to do what I had always wanted and that was to get a college degree. It was not difficult to choose a major, History has always been a driving passion in my life and it has always been a dream to be a teacher. So I enrolled at Missouri Western State College (now University) in 2002. Three weeks after my classes started, I met Phillip and we hit it off really well. He was from Kansas City, so there was a freshness about his background and he was so eager to help take things on. We were married in June 2003.

Even though my chronic illness of Fibromyalgia gave me a lot of challenges, I did graduate from college in May 2007. It was and will be one of the greatest achievements of my life. (After my children of course) I got a job subbing for the school district and I love it! Saddly though my marriage did not fair as well. Money problems plagued us, we filed bankruptcy and I lost my house. (It had been my 110 year old Victorian that I had wanted since childhood. At least I had 10 years there.) We moved, downsized, and things did not improve. In the Spring we separated and that as Forest would say, is all I have to say about that. Just a few days before my birthday I asked my friend Jes about a friend of hers I had noticed on her MySpace page. She didn't miss the chance to play matchmaker and introduced us. Tony is one of the most unique individuals I have ever met, but the best part is I am crazy about him! It doesn't hurt that the feeling is mutual. So now I have a new boyfriend and life is starting anew.

I love my books, my art prints, and my china. I love to surround myself with the little things that mean so much to me. I am a Victorian at heart and so there can never be too much. I love my cats! James Maddison my baby, Arwen Paige Ky's baby, and Wallenda Sue our house "bureau-cat". My favorite color is rose-pink and I love everything Americana. I scrapbook and do genealogy and value my heritage and family history. I do like to travel and I have been to many places. New York City, Honolulu, Key West, and Oklahoma are a few real favorites. My dream though is to go to England. (Most people agree I am British at heart)

So there is the real about me. I am just an average person working to have a good life and to give something special to my children. I wish I could get my health under control and lose weight and feel better. One day at a time and I'll get there. I like myself for many reasons. That is important...liking yourself.
