Amy Lynn Lee was born on December 13, 1981 in Riverside, California's Parkview Hospital. She is the singer and song writer for the rock group Evanescence. Amy Lynn Lee moved around a lot as a child, from Florida to Illinois. Her family finally settled in Little Rock, Arkansas, and the young Amy took enthusiastically to music. In junior high, she joined the choir and attended all-state competitions; in high school, she was the president of her choir council and was involved in the all-region choir, mixed chorus, select ensemble, spring musical, and art club.
"People told me I can't dress like a fairy. I say, I'm in a rock band and I can do whatever the hell I want!"
Amy has a trademark gothic style, marked by her occasional use of gothic make-up (black eyeliner) and unique fashion which consists of often Victorian-styled clothing. She is known to design her own clothes, and sometimes even sew them herself. Starting her own clothing line has not been ruled out, according to her, although she has expressed concerns about the viability of such an endeavour, as she has mentioned that she prefers to create unique hand-crafted costumes rather than mass-produced fashions. In concerts, she often wears a corset or fishnet, and has a notable piercing on her left eyebrow which is visible on the cover of Fallen.
"I cry alot-I dont know why, but it just helps me. I cry over bad and good stuff-sometimes sadness can be beautiful."
When Lee was 6, her 3 year old sister, Bonnie, died, and thus years later Lee recorded the song "Hello", featured on the Fallen album. This is the only song on Fallen that the band has not performed live. She says it's so personal, that if she performs it live at a concert she'll go into a serious breakdown.
"Sometimes I pick my nose. There you have it." Amy Lee says that she loves making funny faces on the red carpet. Amy Lee used to pretend she was dead so that her mom would call the police, but when her mom did not fall for her "drama queen act" she would cry. Amy's worse vice is Godiva Chocolate. She says she will only get two...and then gets six or seven.
"I don't want to be Christina Aguilera. I want to be Amy Lee, rock queen - not sex queen."
Amy makes it clear she absolutely shuts out Christina and Britney's clothes but like fellow rocker Avril Lavigne, they respect Christina Aguilera's talent. Both Avril and Amy dislike Britney's clothes and have said nothing about Britney's talent. Amy dislikes Christina Aguilera's choice of clothes but listens to Christina's "Stripped" album before every concert. Hilary Duff has insulted Amy Lee calling her a freaky looking person that freaks her out!!
