Moen meets Me at sea

When the piano meets the computer

About Me

The acoustic piano meets computer music. Moen met Me at Sea the summer 2005 in studio without any concrete musical ideas. After a few recordings they found a musical mix they both wanted to work with. Working their way from totally different musical backgrounds this can be as surprising for them as for you. Me at Sea is electronic artist Isak Strand. He is known for his often melodic but percussive music set in a melodic electro environment with IDM influences. His solo liveshows includes both laptop and intense drumparts - hammering on everything from analog drumtriggers to bicycles. Piano player Øystein Moen has worked in many different styles and formats of jazz, ranging from contemporary electric freebag, to a more lyrical acoustic trioformat. Moen meets Me at Sea presents their own work, ranging from quiet modal structures to explosive parts of noise-impro. The idea is to preserve the non-genre approach. For those interested in musical influences, names like Brad Mehldau, Paul Bley and Keith Jarrett has to be mentioned, and electronic artists such as Flotel and Ilkae. This is not electronic music. Not jazz. It`s both. Living in two different cities their only way to practice is the internet. Work in progress material is sent back and forth by e-mail. On stage you can see them with a grand piano, laptops and electronic stuff making ambient noise or foggy moods. Rhytmic parts collides with melodic themes in a mix which can move your feet and your mind.(Photo by Jean Christine Cena)
