DIGITAL COLLAGE
(The compression on this slideshow is shit. They're much sharper on my website )
My face is apparently made of rubber:
Random bits of India, a Baltimore car show, and some macroness mixed in for good measure:
I live in suburban DC in a small, ugly house that costs too much. I live here with my wife and a strange beast that they swore to us was a dog, but he looks more like a gorilla pretending to be a dog. I have been vegetarian going on 8 years. I have developed a deep love of long distance running. My left foot has not developed the same love. After a year-long battle with the appendage in question, my foot and I have been able to agree on approximately 25 miles a week… far less than I would like, but it’s a start for now. When I’m not able to run I go bike riding. Most of my riding is done on the road (both paved and unpaved) on my spiffy new cyclocross bike. It has glittery orange paint and streamers coming off the handles. It's the next best thing to a unicorn and it makes me downright giddy.
My art work (which you can view here ) has been mostly digital collage lately. This has been somewhat of a departure for me both in how I shoot and the level of resulting abstraction. Prior to this, my style has been extremely deliberate; every element composed and scrutinized to the Nth degree before execution and nothing ever placed in the image without intention. In contrast, my recent work has me starting with no real concept of the end result in mind. I just go around collecting bits and pieces from all over that I later weave into a finished product. My wife’s photojournalist background has had an undeniable influence on this change of approach.
In terms of subject matter, I have found this technique to be a much better way of helping me process my experiences/feelings/anger/whatever than road rage ever was. And so my work has been largely a visual journal of sorts. Rarely do I attempt to tackle grandiose themes such as life, death, or truth. I find I have plenty to sort through just trying to figure myself out.
