Billy Bean

Welcome!

About Me

Born in Philadelphia in 1933, Billy Bean began playing the guitar at the age of twelve. Several years later, he became part of Charlie Ventura's group with whom he recorded three albums. In 1958, Billy moved to Los Angeles to record two albums for the Decca label with John Pisano. While in L.A., Billy recorded as a sideman on roughly ten albums. Before ultimately returning to Philadelphia, Billy moved to New York where he recorded the great Trio album with Walter Norris (piano) and Hal Gaylor (bass).Billy retired from playing soon after moving back to Philadelphia where he continues to live. Many of those who knew of Billy's playing in the 50's and 60's agree: he is one of the finest players jazz has known. If you have other questions about Billy Bean, please leave a message. He does not own a computer, but I would be happy to relay inquiries to him.
