About DJ VALENTIN:
As DJ Valentin - Jesse Valentijn Veenvliet - I started spinning in 2003. Soon I got a residency at Insula Avalonia and Diogenes where I played mainly dance, rock and hiphop. Furthermore I started organising the (in)famous Disco Avalonia evenings at Gonzo with a friend of mine - an evening that came out of the Insula Avalonia parties where ebm, wave, 80s, dark electro and industrial met. Unsatisfied with only goth-public, Disco Avalonia became a monthly evening where all kinds of dark music were spinned - until Gonzo ceased existing. In the meantime I did some gigs in Utrecht, Arnhem en Leiden, where I got a residency at the New Alternative party's where I spinned a mixture of wave, electro, techno, cybergothic and punkfunk.
In october 2005 I started getting more and more unsatisfied with the musical concept I was supposed to spin within, while my own style started evaluating - spinning more and more minimal, dubstep, grime and baile funk in my sets. In august 2005 I decided it was time for something new - a party without barriers, but with a rough, underground, basement - a "berlinesque" - feeling. A month later, RAFELRAND was bornAbout RAFELRAND:Founded in september 2005, RAFELRAND has become a monthly party at club NDRGRND in Nijmegen. Started as an "electro:techno:punkfunk:dirtydisco:sleazyrock:clash!" and evaluated to a party without musical barriers - except for the rough and metropolian nature of the dj-sets.
At RAFELRAND electro meets baile funk, where techno meets punkfunk, where disco meets grime, punk meets minimal.
After a very succesful june edition where we played back2back, I have decided to let my friend - and great dj - Ozgur - aka DJ Perro Verde - be my RAFELRAND partner in crime. Therefore, from september 2006 5hr back2back sets have been a regular part of the RAFELRAND-schedule. Besides monthly clubnights in NDRGRND, we were invited in november 2006 to play a 5 hours back2back set at Jesse Voorns SPOETNIK evening, where the crowd went wild.
One of the main goals for 2007 is to spread the RAFELRAND concept.Some references: Sugar Factory.
