MiaMia (1980) is a poet and composer/producer of electronic music. She was born as Maria Cristina Fazecas in Oradea, a city in Romania, just past the border of Hungary, almost at the foot of the Transsylvanian mountains.
After a splendid childhood in Romania, a two-day traintrip brought her in 1988 to The Netherlands. There she learned, besides the fluent English, the Dutch language in three months. The art of language and audiovisual design have always been imporant elements in her life.
In 1998 MiaMia entered the 3D Design study (industrial design) at the HKA (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem; art academy) in Arnhem. After three years, writing and film turned out to draw her attention more than industrial design and in 2001 she decided to quit her study at the HKA after all and change direction.
Summer 2007 she graduated at the school of media/ audiovisual journalism. She now wishes to endulge in reviewing music and artistic events, making documentaries, tv-programmes, videocast, and audio-experiments.
MiaMia writes poetry (mostly Dutch, but at times also English, Romanian and French) since 1997. She also performed on stage at a variety of Dutch poetry events and festivals like Pop versus Poets, Zingo Poetry Slam and Onbederf'lijk Vers.
Nowadays MiaMia is determined to combine poetry with sound, by making strange, intuïtive electronic songs and soundscapes. After several times of reading poetry on stage and participating in a few PoetrySlams, she thinks poetry should be taken on a different level then paper and stage.
"At some point I got bored with my own voice and hearing myself always reading my poetry in the same manner. I got interested in a combination between sound and poetry and started recording and archiving sounds.
At the moment I make soundscapes the same way as I write my poetry; instinctive, impulsive and almost meditative. I just clear my mind and the ideas come flowing out. Then I try to freeze them in time as well as I can. This way I also rediscovered my own voice."
