About Me

Very little is known about Ubie Guy.
BLACK DOG is his only known recording. Faintly at the beginning of the recording can be heard the words "Okay Ubie. Black Dog Take One." Ubie then says "Well this is a song about depression. Song about the black dog ... black dog comes around in the morning. Makes you feel real sad."The expression 'black dog" as a reference to depression only became widely used after Winston Churchill used the term during his bleak bouts during World War Two. This strongly suggests Ubie's recording was made after the mid 1940s.
It is generally accepted that he played bass drum, tin-can shaker and electric ukelele simultaneously. Anecdotal evidence suggests that he played a Tombo Ukelet
