New Record "Heaven Knows" - out so freakin' soon!

About Me

The Woes are a group of NYC musicians led by Cicero Jones based around the songs of Osei Essed. Essed's songs straddle a variety of American music genres, from Blues to Bluegrass to Country Music and early New Orleans Jazz. Likewise the instrumentation varies from show to show, some nights The Woes turn up at the door as a string band with violin, pedal steel and an upright bass, other nights a brass band, with tuba, trumpet, saxophone, trombone and French horn some nights a blending of the two. The group size is also a variable, swinging between 4 to 10 musicians on stage at one time - the results is generally a raucous good time. The Woes program a monthly event at Goodbye Blue Monday in Bushwick called SPITSHINE, booking an eclectic mix of music for the evening from Brooklyn gospel, hip hop, country music, blues and singer song writers. The evening even features the occasional pop group. Over the last year The Woes have performed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Montauk Club, The Brooklyn Next! festival, Brooklyn Public Library, Freddy's Backroom and are regulars at some of Brooklyn's finer music establishments. At this time, The Woes have completed their upcoming release "Heaven Knows" (release date soon TBA) and are working on an EP to be release in mid 2009.
