The Deaf Fulvio Johnson Story
Deaf since the age of seven, after being involved
in an unfortunate washing machine accident
and blind since age thirteen, when a
rose dethorning machine blew up in his face,
Fulvio Johnson learned to play guitar using his
heightened sense of smell.
At age twelve he played his first gig at the
Institute for the Deaf which he attended.
Initially disheartened by the lack of response,
he decided to push on and began to make
a name for himself doing floral arrangements
for high society parties. This was the time
he met the Five Deaf Boys, who were working
at the flower market.
When first exposed to the Deaf Boys vocals,
Fulvio said, "That Smells Badd".
It was at a record industry party that he was
approached by a record company executive
who spotted Fulvio's guitar, which was being
used as part of the central floral piece.
Asked if he would play one of his own songs,
Fulvio didn't respond and the record company executive
took this to mean that he wasn't interested.
Now Fulvio has made enough
money from floral arranging to finance his own record.
Listen and enjoy.
