The Hanged Man represents the way you are perceived when you dance to the rhythm of a different drummer. The process of finding that drummer entails going within, recognizing the distortion existing in your life, then searching more deeply for the truth you want to live; and the certainty that living that truth is the only way you can live at this point in your life. The Hanged Man brings the message: know yourself and your way, discover your purpose and turn your life around for it, regardless of the opinions of others.
Humans are driven by free will. We don't change our aberrant ways until we absolutely have to. Therefore, most turn-arounds are caused by events that are out of our control: we get fired, the partner needs to start a new life with a new lover, we've been diagnosed with a deadly disease. That's how this card signifying reversal came to be thought of as negative. But the Major Arcana represent the vicissitudes of human life and the best way to not only survive but become stronger and wiser through of them. Summer gives way to Autumn and the blossom dries and dies, the atmosphere reverses from hot to cold. Prepare.There is a story about how the phrase "This too shall pass" came to be, and it expresses the message of this 12th Arcana. I remember it this way:A king long ago in India called six wise men together and asked them to devise a phrase of wisdom that would apply to both good and bad times.
