About Me

I'm nobody--who are you? Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us--don't tell.
They'd banish us, you know.
How dreary to be somebody.
How public like a frog to shout your name
The livelong day
To an enquiring bog.
--Emily Dickinson
So, now you know--I like Emily Dickinson. I like lots of other poets, too, because if you want to be a writer you need to know how to use the tool of language, and nobody does that better than a good poet.I'm a writer. I have three novels published, have worked for newspapers, have the first draft of a fourth novel finished and am working on two more. I also have three very sensual romance novellas published.I'm also an editor and a trade book publisher, which means I have to schedule my writing time. Doesn't matter, as long as I get to do it. If I don't, I start to feel like you do when there's something important you needed to do and forgot. Or maybe it's withdrawal symptoms. Two of my novels are part of a fantasy trilogy called The Everdark Wars. The first is Dreams of Darkness; the sequel is Shadow of the Scorpion. Third one is The Ugly Princess, which was translated into Swedish last year and actually sells a few copies now and then.I have one husband, three cats, four children and four grandchildren, silvery hair and blue eyes. The rest, as Anne MacCaffrey says, is subject to change without notice.

My Interests

Just about anything that doesn't cause harm to anyone.

I'd like to meet:

Anybody with a story to tell and anyone who'd like to talk with me about mine. I built a world, and I'd love to take y'all on a tour of it.

Music:

Alabama to Mozart to ZZTop. I like the way certain pieces of music resonate with me, so my taste is eclectic, to say the least.

Movies:

If I started to list them, I'd be here a week. It's pretty much the same as with my interests and music prefs--if I like it, I like it.

Television:

Okay, I confess--I'm a cop show junkie. Sue me.

Books:

Mention something--if I've read it, we'll talk. If I haven't, maybe I'll give it a shot if you can talk me into it.

Heroes:

Eleanor Roosevelt, Benjamin Franklin, and anybody who does something to help someone else without hesitation and without expecting anything in return.

As long as you're here...

...I might as well give you something to read. I wrote this story, called "Because I Could Not Stop," for a contest. It didn't win, but I rather like it. The title is from a poem by Emily Dickinson.--...

Why am I not surprised?

After I debate for weeks on whether I want to dive into this place, I arrive at the blog and discover you have to have--what? IE? Netscape?--to use the advanced blog editor. Probably need Windoze, too...
