As a youngster growing up in an area known to locals as “Valley Highâ€, Duston Machado expressed his feelings and emotions through visual art. Driven by the passion to speak his mind through his vivid illustrations, “D†(as some of his friends call him) earned his street credibility by showcasing quality art. As a child, Duston, like every other kid, had his ups and downs and when he became trouble for his mother she would respond by offering a blank canvas and brush (most likely a piece of scratch paper and a crayon). The streets of the central valley do not offer many amenities for our children so most kids resort to negative opportunities rather than positive opportunities. Influenced by his peers and hip hop culture Duston gained a reputation for his display of magnificent characters, awesome pieces and incredible throw ups. Most of Duston’s art has been destroyed because of the lack of understanding the public has to graffiti. Defacing the world and living above the law got old quick as he began to realize the more important things in life, basically becoming a man. Growing away from the illegal walls and “hello my name is†stickers, Duston felt a hunger inside to push harder and become a successful business man. This marked the birth of Mynd Ink Co. Duston created a series of collections for Mynd Ink Co. that got put on the back burner for an opportunity to design for an upcoming skate shop. Fortunately for Duston, shortly after joining team, the skate shop lost their primary designer. Being the natural born hustler that he is, Duston jumped on the opportunity to finally live the dream. Soon after the falling out of the first designer, Duston faced a similar fate and was let go from the project. This brought Duston back to the same empty canvas and brush that he started out with as a kid. When it seemed as if everything he wanted was gone in a blink of an eye he knew that he wouldn’t let this be the end of the road. He transformed the rejection into strength and confidence, using it to fuel a brand new business called Mynd Clothing. This time Duston “humbled out†and looked to his friends and family for the support he needed. This was the best decision that Duston made because he made it for himself and not for anybody else. Mynd Clothing has been a success since it was introduced to the world in Summer 2006. Mynd Clothing flawlessly bridges the gap between competitive industry fashion and the graffiti (hip – hop) culture making clothes for people who believe in what they love and love what they believe!.
