Weapon Head - the name sounds so familiar, it etches itself on the back of your skull, it is here for the long haul, and people are taking notice!
After just returning to Australia from their triumphant US shows, Weapon Head have hit a new level within themselves. Recently the band was invited to play the legendary Locobazooka Festival in Mansfield MA to support Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio on vocals), Alice Cooper, and Queensryche. This honour was graciously accepted by the band who took this opportunity and ran with it.
Weapon Head were buzzing at the chance to play in front of 15 000 fans, and the band did not disapoint. A cracking set saw the boys with a couple of record execs taking albums immediately, scores of new American fans, and a new alliegance of band contacts aswell. The phones have been ringing, the album is selling, and the websites are getting plenty of love.
This whole trip was made possible by a phonecall from a couple of people who really belive the band is going places. Rob and Kerry Slack of Gayndah, Nth Qld heard about this amazing chance and rang the band straight away to offer to fund the entire $20 000 for the American tour. The Slacks' are old friends of the band and have officially invested in Weapon Head. They will now recieve a percentage of any future earnings from the band.
The relatively new band have accomplished a hell of a lot in the 2 and a half years they've been together. The band is now targeting Australia, and the world audience over the next month with a publicity campaign for the track - STRAIGHT OUT THE DOOR, to be put into play over the next few weeks.
Weapon Head have also made the National Final again of the Global Battle of the Bands. Last year the band finished 3rd place, and this year they're hoping to do a little better! The National winner gets to represent Australia at the world final in London in early December, of which the winner gets a world tour and $100 000 US.
Earlier in the year the band recorded and self funded their debut album Slave Free. This was recorded at Modern Music Studios in Brisbane, and was produced by the highly respected and talented Stuart Niven.
The hard working, can do attitude has got this group of four blokes from Goondiwindi on the national and world stage.
With a singing drummer, gifted bass player, and identical twins on guitars - Weapon Head stand out from the crowd, as does their brutal, primal sound. Their hard rock has a unique edge to it which has been noticed by Chris Neal from Springboard Records...
'At the fundamental level, I like the record a lot - the writing is intelligent, interesting, punchy and delivers a shirt-load more power riff value than many others of the genre - including recent releases by Metallica and Audio Slave. I'm often disappointed that hard and metal cds get bogged down in concept and forget to deliver enough neck-snapping riffs to satisfy what I assume to be the basic buying urges of their fans. Not so your record. I'm greatly encouraged that a town like Goondiwindi can produce such a tight, hard-rockin' band and I'd love to be in a position to work with you guys, but I ain't - c'est la vie.
The fact is, you already have what you need. You have your first record. Any record exec worth salt will envisage where you can go with your second cd and will come on board with you during your development. I have no doubt I'll be hearing more from Weapon Head......'
