DARK ERIAL-TURNING THE PAGE
DARK ERIAL; THE BAND HISTORY
The group was formed in the spring of 2003 when the guitarist Luis Torres set about composing and recording the four tracks that, some time later, he would use to attract musicians to join him in his project. Once the four short tracks were finished Luis initiated an exhaustive search placing ads in specialist magazines, local papers, practice studios, diverse Internet sites, etc.
The first person to answer Luis; ads was Yolanda Navarette, a singing student in one of Madrid, several prestigious conservatories who immediately joined the project. Just over a month later the experienced drummer David (Vallachia), who had been playing pop, hard rock and heavy metal, joined the group.
It was trade long before they found a place in which to practice, a converted and soundproofed industrial building with a sign over the door saying Asociación de Músicos de Móstoles and quickly began preparing their first songs. Móstoles is a large town on the southern outskirts of Madrid.
The project was beginning to take shape and soon had a name Dark Erial. Influenced by bands of a diverse nature such as Nightwish, Dream Theater or Death, the band started forging the skeleton of the initial tracks which followed an aggresive and forceful line very similar to Trash and Scandinavian Metal, but with Gothic and Progressive traces.
David left the group in December, leaving Luis and Yolanda on their own until January when Use - who played guitar with the original Ebony Ark line-up and presently with the band Hellend - came on the scene to take control of the guitars. Two months later, Riky and Fernando Ortega joined Dark Erial playing drums and bass guitar, respectively.
From this moment onwards the concept of the group slowly began to change, becoming more melancholic in its lyrics and more progressive in its music which began to flirt with different styles and types. With the arrival of Pedro (previously with Dreamaker and Ebony Ark) on keyboards, Dark Erial, as a group, began to achieve a certain stability. But it didn€™t last long. Riky left the band to join Avulsed, replacing Furni (ex-Terroristars) and having decided that playing in both bands wasn€™t compatible.
His substitute was to be Carlos Bricio who joined the group in September of 2004 having played previously with the pop group Valium. With this line-up Dark Erial played in various concerts in and around Madrid making their debut in the Ritmo & Compás Club and getting a warm reception from the public. Some weeks after their last concert as a sextuplet and together with OnÃrica - in the club El Grito de Fuenlabrada in June of 2005, Use and Pedro, in a friendly parting of the ways, disassociated themselves from the project which overnight became a cuartet.
With this line-up, and after a year of trying out different keyboard players, Dark Erial finally recorded the video clip for their single Turning The Page and have since released the band first CD, due out on sale in October.
Javier Molano (ex-Inner Beast) and Rafael Fernandez (ex-Atsphear) lent their voices for Brýnhild, the second track on the mini-album giving it a specially charming sound. The recording, production and mixing for the new CD was all done by Luis Torres.
To promote the CD the band has returned to Madrid rock scenarios, where they have found themselves again, offering a fresh and renewed look and sound, transmitting to their followers and music lovers in the audience all the energy which emanates from their songs.
Their next album will be ready towards the end of 2007 and all we know about it is that it will be an abstract piece of work in which several musicians, coming from different bands and styles, will be invited to play, and that the album will have one very long track at the end, in the form of a grand finale.
Furthermore, the band capacity has recently been strengthened by the joining of Daniel O´Grady, nineteen year old new keyboards player who is sure to delight all of the band followers and good music lovers alike
