Akimbo is a performance drag artist who specialises in Oriental looks. He originated as an Actor from The Poor School of Acting in Kings Cross, London. A combination of Japanophilia and his interest in the London club scene led to the creation of an extraordinary character designed to bring performance art back to clubbers.He spent 6 months of 2006 in Melbourne, Australia launching the character on the Drag Scene, learning make up and studying cabaret which culminating in a guest appearance at the legendary Grayhound Club. After returning to London he worked for Terry Hart on New Years Eve 2007 at Club Nude / Ministry of Sound. As well as working in cabaret venues Akimbo has also performed on both the Burlesque scene (London Festival of Burlesque, Male Tournament of Tease) and Fetish Scene (Club Rub / Torture Garden).For club Pushca, 2006, Akimbo recreating the murder of Mary Anne Nichols by Jack the Ripper. For Club Rub / Wonderland he played the hookah smoking caterpillar at an Alice in Wonderland event where he emerged from a suspended crysalis.Although these recent acts show a diversification, Akimbo's main fascination is still with Japan and Geisha culture. He has extensively researched and studied traditional Japanese art forms such as Tea ceremony, Kabuki and Odori (Japanese Dance). His stage performance are based on dark and comedic slants on these ancient arts.....Akimbo is a regular performer for Studio Neon who as well as hosting their own nights have been an entertainment provider for Club Egg throughout 2007.Akimbo is also a published poet.Click here to read my poem 'Teabag'Akimbo at Vauxhallville in A Japanese Spectacular 2007.
