About Me

live at the arthouse may 16th my 21st bday gig
Aphotic Dawn - Heart Of Chaos
Short improv solo
Me playing Felo De Se(with many mistakes), one of our oldest songs our band no longer plays, but still fun top play on the bass. I was playing this from memory as we haven't played it as a band in years, so bare with me on the shitness
Rough Rendition of Cynic's - Eagle Nature on my 5string Belman custom fretless, i improvised the ending solo but the camera cut it off short as it did on all my videos!
Hello Universe, I am Brendan [aka Cygnus as a musical alias]. I am heavily into art, movies, computers, philosophy, cosmology, cars and music.
I am the bass player of Ne Obliviscaris, an amazing dark band consisting of 2 guitars, drums, vocalist, and violinist. We explore a varied mix of genre's, including black and death metal, but also with classical and folk influences. At times we can be brutally fast and technical, but often strip back down to atmospheric mellow sections and use dramatic build ups.
I am also in tech/deathgroove band called Aphotic Dawn, featuring Mortuary[neo] on drums. Our songs are short/fast and executed with a brutal precise attack.
I have a few side projects, one with Youngie[Alarum] and Tim[Neo] making atmospheric space-influenced jazzy-rock instrumentals with alot of room for improvisation.
I'm slowly writing a bass only album. Exploring all different styles and techniques, tapping, slap, fretless, ebow, layers and effects.
And last but not least i've been composing my own death metal project called "infinite Density" where i play guitar and bass, write lyrics and create artwork. The project is based on universal energy, personal beliefs and cosmological science, similar to bands such as Mithras and Wormed. It features highly talented and diverse vocalist Ben[aphotic]. For the moment i programmed drums but will be recording with a real drummer soon.
I have been playing bass since i was 12 and electric guitar for a couple years. I try and practise for a few hours every day. I play our band songs, classical pieces [for warming up and finger dexterity], other bands songs, or just jam it out. I'm fluent at tapping, and a bit of funk slap. I have gained influence from some amazing bass players such as Sean Malone[cynic, aghora] and Lars K norberg[spiral architect], aswell as incorporating some of my own techniques to create some special bass lines and variety within my music.
Music should never be forced out or analytically thought about. It should flow naturally from your collective subconscious, this is how the best music is made. You are only limited by your own imagination, and try to be open to as much styles of music as possible, this is how you can really break the molds and get the full potential out of your instrument.
