About Me

A failing Hestia who won't surrender. Dancer at heart despite the fleshy disguise. Love affair with words and a 1976 Buick. Presided over a cafe that really was magic. Mother to two heart stopping sparks of pixie royalty. I sit in awe and wonder that I've been honored to know them since birth. Occasionally breathe music - trad irish, cape verde, early european, beethoven, loreena mckennitt. An opera singer, but not diva enough for the scene. Dogmaticalloy optimistic. Enraged in the face of the unfair. Book whore. Sci-fi, but oh so picky. Still have a torch for Ayn Rand, but have mellowed greatly since that first wild crush. Nature lover, but no need to camp in the winter or dig my own toilet. But big dork with the Audobon identification books. Actually big dork in most things. Until my kids, I thought friends were one of life's greatest gift. With the exception of them, my friends are still one of my favorite things life is offering.

My Interests

Scottish Highland Dance. Flamenco Dance. Hiking - the nature observing kind, not the conquer the world kind. Early music (think shawm). Book whore. Etymology (words not bugs). Mythology and comparative theology. Porch swings and red wine in combination. Singing.

I'd like to meet:

I've got quite a nice hubby that I'm not looking to replace, or even make nervous. Otherwise I'm open. I love my friends, even those who I haven't spoken to in a long time. I'd love to hear from anyone who ever knew me. Seriously. If you don't know me that's cool too, but tell me why I should. Random friend requests are a bit strange, and this coming from someone who usually champions strange. Don't let that discourage you though - if you've got an unhealthy love for your Buick Regal, I'd love to talk to you. Or for any other reason that seems good. THE LONG LOST WHO I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM: Ken Hopkins/Sullivan, Brian Blair, Karon Mura, Dee Dee Pitsios, Ann Marie Gazer, Pascale Truillot, Laila Stein, Mike Latash, Marc Cooper, Dennis Herron, Craig Zimmerman, John Zelewsky, Mike DuRoss, Erik Strack, Eric Decker, Eric Copper, Libby Harrison, Paula Anderson, Luke Adams, Nikki Bazer, Marc Chaffee, Marc Peterson (Pinch), Rushon Finlay, Shane Winn, Tim Zorn, Tami Druegmiller, Amy Martin, Dave Ireland, Jeff Whitten, Maria Wright, Sean Kennetta, Mike Wolfe, Peter Eiden, Jesse Bernstein, Elizabeth Gottlieb, Tim Quirk, Mike Vergoth, Rob Boncosky, Matt Herlihy, Christi Benedetti, Donna Wezio, Cara Stalter, Mary Oettinger, Martin Bany, Jason Jones, Daniel Berg (fr. Yesterday, while we were trying to load up the car and leave my parents' house, Fiona kept running alongside the house.  It is a narrow and shaded area with stepping stones, and has a secret...

spring is in the air

Yesterday I was outside with Fiona, and I said to her "Hey Fi, springtime is coming, can you feel it in the air?"  And in all earnestness and solmnety , she raised her arms above her head an...

I firmly believe that a blog ought to be witty and fun to read (ala dan cruzat), but at the moment I'm just pretending that we're all sitting around cafe catching up with each other (as long as we're ...

Took Fiona to her first swimming lesson yesterday.  We went to the Leaning Tower YMCA, which is where I learned to swim.  It was strange to be there again.  I spent so much time there a...

domesticity

It's been seriously below zero for over a week.  Also, in all seriousness, Ian's car was eaten by a squirrel for the second time, so he's had my car.  Which all adds up to me, a toddler, and...

Every time I see this ad come on, all I can think, is "Has no one at the agency seen an empisode of the Simpsons?".  One of the three models they use (repeatedly) throughout the ad is made to loo...
