Roli Garcia Jr began striking skins at the tender age of 1 1/2. He was surrounded by the jazz/fusion era, and an inspiration, his Father (Roli Sr), who had raised him on the music and styles of the following artists: Billy Cobham, Lenny White & Steve Gadd of Chick Coreas' Electric days, Hancocks' Thrust days with Mike Clark, Gino Vannellis' 70's era orchestral jazz/rock, Gentle Giants' odd progressive tasks, Jean-Luc-Ponty, Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tower Of Power, Cold Blood, Chicago, etc. The 80's gave Jr the opportunity to expose his talents to the public at NAMM shows, being featured in the infamous Modern Drummer magazine, sitting in with Vinnie Colaiutas' DOG CHEESE, performing at Zildjian Day in Dallas (1985) trading fours with the GREAT Louie Bellson, duet performances with Billy Cobham, Gregg Bissonette, and various jazz festivals. At that point, Roli began using Dave Weckls' technique and style combining the 70's era into what He would describe as being the "universal" style, meaning that Roli could perform on ANY drumkit and be quite comfortable with sizes of drums and cymbals. Hours & years later, Roli also got into 90's/00's drummers and bands such as Virgil Donati, Dennis Chambers, Gary Husband, Tribal Tech, Porcupine Tree (w/ Gavin Harrison), Dream Theater w/ Mike Portnoy, Andromeda, Lemur Voice, etc. He adopted this era of progressive rock music, which perfected and updated his "universal" approach making him an all-around drummer. He has worked in the Texas area with various jazz artists and performing at jazz festivals. He currently has his own band playing around SA, "Edge Of Grace". Roli has recruited the BEST musicians He could find (Whitney Harris -Vocals-, Gerry Martinez -Guitar, Jorge Palomo -Bass). He is ALSO working every weekend with a "RUSH" Tribute band, "Exit Stage Left" featuring Ron Jarzombek, Amanda Ruiz, & Jack Peterson.
