Life on Mud

About Me

From an early age living in South London, Genghis Attenborough was able to compose in his head. Unfortunately due to his partly celtic upbringing he never wrote anything down. He has claimed that he thought all of Phillip Glass's later works during this period. This, he believes, was the beginning of the Genghis we know today. Haunted by recurring nightmares where he was stalked by an evil, flying humpty-dumpty with his step grandfathers face on and deeply disturbed by the appearance of a full sized concorde in his bedroom one night, Genghis lost the ability to compose. Instead he turned to his father's record collection of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Malcolm Arnold and Pink Floyd for inspiration along with Gary Glitter's Leader of the Gang. Genghis's first instrument was the piano, followed by the cello, a lovely instrument when played well. This led to a stint in the Elmbridge Youth Orchestra where he managed to convince everybody he could read music when in actual fact he couldn't read shite. Genghis left after a frightful performance where he lost his place on the score on the first page and the conductor fell off the stage in front of the local mayor. It wasn't long before Genghis took up the guitar because it had more strings than the cello. He was a member of Midnight Dilemma, a Goth/Troggs tribute band, when he stumbled across the idea of 'Duckhop' after someone tied his shoe laces together during a gig. He became more interested in feedback and effects, especially during his work with the Dangerous Fisher Brothers and to his surprise he found he wasn't playing guitar at all any more but what would later be coined as the amplified brain...... Recordings include: With the DANGEROUS FISHER BROTHERS - Aliens licked my toothpaste, The Subversive tape, Sounds from East Rudham. With THE GATHERING - The Gathering for John Stevens 2002 (Emenem), With BRAIN BADGER - Brain Badger, With THE LITTLE PRINCESS ORCHESTRA - Love songs, With JAZZ AMBULANCE (& The flying manta ray brothers) - 73 Smooth Soul Horror Classics. Solo works include THE POSTMAN (2002) and WILDLIFE ON FIRE (2003). He is also part of the group BAT BOMB and one half of PIG 7 and occasionally makes noise at the Foundry with Steve Moyes and others. He also just received the Arthur award for Best Peasant. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
