About Me

I started listening to Rap music in 1982. I attended a house party here in Davenport, Iowa. I heard many jams that night but two songs I remember very distinctly were The Breaks by Kurtis Blow and The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel. I did not know the names of these songs at the time but made it a mission that next week. I had been a heavy metal head during the 70's but remained a undercover soul music and disco fan. My friends were not into different music styles. I grew up in a very diverse area of town and was also on the lower scale of pay as well. We did not have a mainstream radio station that played cutting edge rap at that time. The local college station is where I heard my first rap radio song which was Rappers Delight in 1982. This station is what I had been longing for: KALA 88.5/105.5 FM. I needed something different. I was tired of the same old music! I sat in my room and just stationed surfed then I heard this cut...hip hop a hibbie to the hip hip hop you don't stop. I didn't know what it was? But I knew it was just like the music I heard at that house party. I became hooked in like a second and I started to find these jams at Co-op Tapes and Records or Musicland. The crazy deal is when I went to buy The Sugarhill Gang's Rappers Delight the store clerk bugged out and said I was too young to purchase the record. So I went out into the mall and confronted a person who I knew was able to buy the wax. He looked confused at first but I told him my situation. I went nuts with my paper route money and I also corn detassled to be able pay for my music! All of these early groups and many more have shaped my music side. I love old school and mixin old school. I spent four years in the United States Navy. I went to boot camp in Orlando, Florida. I then proceded to my school in Meridan, Mississippi. My orders came in and was transferred to the USS Vreeland FF-1068, Mayport, Florida. During this time music was a huge part of my life. There was not much to do out to sea. I played music all the time in the supply room. I was a storekeeper and handled issue/receipt of material for the entire ship. Music was my way out when things were not going well for me. The guys tripped out on me because here I was a white kid from Iowa and I had all of this rap music. I had taught myself how to break dance, DJ, and mix. I'd like to meet:

I was very fortunate to meet one of my childhood football heros at the Lady Luck Riverboat Casino at then famous Roger Craig's Sports Bar. The hero in question was none other than the greatest running back that ever played the game of football Walter Payton. It was one of the great moments of my life and I even shared some conversation with Walter. I have a photo that I will upload so the rest of you can enjoy that special moment too. I would also like to meet Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Disco Whiz Kid, Charlie Chase, DJ Jazzy Jeff, The Original Jazzy Jay, Rakim, Sugar Hill Gang, DMC... Just to name a few. Another person that I admire is Michael Jordan. I have been a Bull's fan since the age of five. I am thankful that I was alive during this era so I could learn how to set goals from one of the greatest basketball players. I would love to meet Michael Jordan... width="425" height="350" .... width="425" height="350" .... width="425" height="350" .... width="425" height="350" ..
