An important new film about the legislation which was passed in order to get rid of Brian Haw, the lone protestor who has camped outside Parliament for more than 6 years. His ever-increasing display of powerful and artistic banners challenged the politicians who voted for the invasion of Iraq. Last year police swooped and unlawfully removed most of his display, but he has continued his successful battle to remain outside Westminster.

bill hicks - pop stars
So now you know how I feel about corporate pop music and the rancid culture it has spawned, I can continue.
Being a musician and DJ I am naturally a music fanatic, and can quite happily while away my spare time listening to tunes or preparing endless sets. I used to be addicted to making mix tapes as a boy including compiling Amiga game music top tens when I was really young complete with inbetween track banter (i dont know what happend to them). I tend to check out all genres im drawn too, and research them using google and soulseek (you are truly my gods). Then through hours of listening, I find the best Albums/Tracks/Remixes(in my oppinion) then move on to something else, whilst still retaining the knowledge (and love) of my previous venture. And so I enjoy/celebrate/wallow in Metaaaahl (minus the meatheadedness !), Psychedelic Trance and all things PSY (!!!BOOM!!!), E.B.M., Glitchy shit that keeps my brain tikin' over, Stoner ROK!!, Break beat and Hip-Hop, Jazz, 90's Sub pop style indie rock, Hectic and liquid Drum&Bass, White noise, Old skool R&B, Motown and soul, Death and black Metal (Thats my Axe Style), Elektroclash, Outsider music (music in the key of Z), Dirty sweaty funk (for bustin moves), All Phatty Boombattie Breaks/Beats/Drops, Minimal Techno, Blues, Dirty Tribal beats, Grindcore, Classical, Dub, Subsonic frequencies, Twisted Industrial, Breakcore, Extremely Hard Dance, Doom, Reggie, Punk and Hardcore, Sleazy Nu wave & Electronica (lick it!), Ambient soundscapes, Skuzzy deth'N'roll, Progressive in general (Ticon to Tool but not Rush), Kinky Kickin' electro complete with whips 'N' shit, Sludgecore, new post Indie like Les Savy Fav and At the Drive-In, Jakin house, Drill&Bass and every thing Mike Patton or Devon Townsend ever graced their presence with. So basically anything that isnt Coldplay, Evernesence, Travis, Razorlight, Dido, James Blunt or any thing else that sounds suspiciously like something that obviously sucks. This applies to mall metal & pop punk, Bone headed hip-hop & blinged up R&B, 100th generation indie (dude just drop it ok), Euro trance & dance, Eighties poodle hair-metal revival, Garage and of course.....Emo (and I dont mean emotional music, you can't hide behind that excuse).
Its all just bullshit built on lies and and mountains of 'paid for' shit (reviews, ahem) The music buisness as we know it, is only 60 years old! but music has been around since man first got jiggy with it, I believe we can out live this 'meme' music propaganda machine. By meme I mean survival of the shittest (google it). To quote my favoroute Rapper Immortal Technique "Goin' Platinum ain't got nothin' to do with luck, it just means that a million people are stupid as fuck". As you can probably tell I really, really dislike a lot of music for specific reasons, but for every band that rubs me up the wrong way I can think of a Guzzilion others that send me to my own personal cloud 9, so its all good =). And thanks to living in London I can go to clubs and bars that play music I like and not what the status quo is forced to adhere to. If I was a character from a film id be Steve Buscemi in Ghost World, his reaction to 80's jazz funk is kinda like the physical response Im partial to when shitty music is blasted at me as Im trying to kick back. I like music from the heart and not the wallet, ya dig. Oh yeah and just to say, Zane Lowe must be stopped, he is a twat and has an extremely annoying voice which reflects his playlist choices!!!

would you believe me if I said I only like good films and left it at that? no, ok then. i am 25 years old and have seen pretty much every film so far i could want to see, including all classics, independent and films from around the world. I have managed to filter out all the shit i wouldnt wanna see by a simple process of elimination, I call this prognative taste powers (P.T.P.) it enables me to not believe that Johnny Depps performance in Pirates of the Carribian is his best so i can avoid it as there is nothing left for me to be interested in. the fact that Jerry Bruckhiemer is the producer is usually an early warning sign that the script is gonna mentally starve me, explosions will replace reason and that perhaps this wont be the next 'usual suspects' or 'Memento' in terms of original structure. instead my P.T.P. powers will inform me that in fact Dead Man will probably have my personal favorite Depp performance as its written and directed by the guy that did Ghost Dog and has Neil Young writing the soundtrack. I hope this small example will inspire you and help you with future entertainment choices, I have found it invaluable thus far.
Directors and writers whose films I usually enjoy include The Coen Brothers, Lars Von Trier, Martin Scorcese, Micheal Mann, Fracis Ford Coppola, Fritz Lang, Beat Takeshi, Werner Herzog, Ingmar Bergman, Harmony Korine, Alfred Hitchcock, Oliver Stone, Michael Haneke, Pedro Almodovar, Alex Cox, Paul Thomas Anderson, John Carpenter, Jim Jarmusch, Gaspar Noé, Micheal Winterbottom, Errol Morris, Larry Clark, John Cassavetes, Ken Russel, Michael Moore, Walter Salles, William Peter Blatty, Aleksandr Sokurov, David Cronenberg, Bela Tarr, David Fincher, Aki Kaurismaki, Wong Kar-wai, Quentin Tarantino, Abbas Kiarostami, John Boorman, David Lynch, Lukas Moodysso, Stanley Kubric, Takashi Miike, Wes Anderson, Terrence Malick, and tons of other what I consider to be masters of cinema and story telling. I dont mind what genre I watch as long as it accomplishes the vibe it is trying to achieve and immerses me in a believable world wether real or fantasy. For a list of films that genuinely get my creative instincts going and I can enjoy on multiple viewings =)
On the flipside however I also appreciate martial arts movies such as Iron Monkey, The Young Master and Story of Ricky. low budget indie comedies like Office Space (I want my Stapler), Zoolander (id like you to meet my associate Kertinka geborgonahharhra), Half Baked (lets just say im not getting the respect a cop killer deserves) and anything which sidesteps the usual bone headed common denominator subject matter. However my one true vice is the type of movie that can only fall into the "its sooooo bad its good" genre.
These include such classics as Jack Frost (classic scene displayed above), Jack frost 2, all things Troma (I have a huge collection!!!!), Thunder in Paradise 3, Demon Wind, Anything with lou Diomand Phillips in (ha ha), 'Rats' Night of terror, All the old trashy monster films shot in mexico or the polynesian islands in order to save money, Star Wars episodes 1-3 (only kidding they're just shit ;), Evil Ed ("dont you fucking look at me"), and erm did I mention Troma oh I did, K.
Troma
This is my fave cinema in London showing blockbusters from the last 2 months you might have missed, the best in world cinema and cool exclusive film festivals ranging from foriegn showcase, new horror movies, political cinema to xtreme sports docs. fucking cheap tickets usually £3/4. £1 for everything on fridays(!), thats tickets, popcorn and beer all £1 each!!! and its in central london next to all the other expensive cinemas.

Clubs & BarsLiving in London, one of the many perks is the choice of clubs and bars. What this really means is that you can avoid the chavvy wetherspoons, trendy celebrity bars, funky house ridden identi-kit meat markets, nationalistic football dives and the Antipodean testosterone fuelled fight clubs. Instead I choose to relax/let loose in an environment more suited to my life style choices. This is thanks to the thriving eclectic music scene london has on offer, after all with that many people, somethings gonna emerge that you'll like. Music is my religeon, here are a few of the temples I worship at !!!BOOM!!! oh I should also just mention I dont drink much when I'm out, so I havn't taken into account the bar prices at some of these places. Hope you dont get stung (I prefer a bean or a smoke)
Acid Monkey/Wild Things Records @ Jacks Club, 7-9 Crucifix Lane, London Bridge (around the corner from SEone)
Sporadic Saturdays (check the website)10pm - 12 midday
£10/15 (depending on the night)
This is easily one of my fave psychedelic trance party organisers next to Wild Things. There are allways great special guest headliners and the residents stay true to whats going on in the Psy scene. Parties happen every few months at Jacks Club, which is quite possibly my dream setting. From the moment you pass by the security unhassled pay the friendly concession staff you are now entering PSY heaven. Hot? yes! Sweaty? yes! but what you loose in persperation you more than make up for in psychedelic hedonism. The club has 2 rooms, the first you walk into is the chillout or progressive room and the smell of sweet cheeba hits you like a breath of fresh air. After rolling up and enjoying the laid back vibe and exellent UV decor (courtesy of the organisers, the club is an open canvas) you turn your attention to the main room. Its a tunnel shaped room, not that wide but it stretches back to the bar and cloackroom. Here the music is full on and has some exellent visual screens and lights to help immerse you. As the night progreses it fills up to a comfortable copacity still leaving you room to stomp unhabated. Basically its a mini SEone without the hassle, THIS IS HOW ALL CLUBS SHOULD BE, ahem. The crowd here is allways an eclectic, international mix, of the most up for it party motherfuckers I have ever had the pleasure to share a stomp with. Friends can allways be made in the chillout room where a quick chat with an unknown is impossible to avoid but allwayss a pleasing suprise as you meet new like minded peeps. Best to turn up at around 12 midnight when the night is in full swing, it usually runs untill 12 midday so you have plenty of time to dance and socialise.

Herbal, Kingsland Rd, Shoreditch, London
Hah where to start with this one, Well lets just say I can have a great time here any night of the week (exept mondays because its closed). DJ's and MC's include Groove Rider, Killa Kela, Sub Focus, DJ Flight, Mixologists, DJ HYPE, Miss Pink, Goldie & MetalHeads, DJ Vadim, Shy FX, Zaki, Trip, Storm..... Basically this club kicks, fucking cheap entrance fee (often free before 11pm) proper party style people (not much sitting about or seats to sit on for that matter) and a great intimate setting to enjoy a smoke and the best in Drum and Bass, Hip-hop and Break beat, Fucked up house & Electro, and all non comercial forms of urban dance music!!!! They now have saturday and sunday day sessions, thanks to a newly installed outdoor garden. Thich is great for enjoying the summer Sun with a 'smoke' in one hand and a Sol with lime in the other. Groove Riders liquid D&B sessions 'Grace' on sunday evenings are great after a Hectic Saturday/Sunday rave. Technicality, Loose Change and Spit Kingdom are probably my fave nights and I can often be seen at them bustin' moves on the dancefloor. They usaully have live set album launch parties and suprise guests too, so never a dull occasion. I LOVE THIS CLUB =) oh and did I mention the soundsystem fuckin kicks? well it does! just be there !!!BOOM!!!

If you want the electroclash experience without the fake preening bullshit or NME inspired Electrowank, then be here as I allways have a fantasticaly messy time. Dirty sweaty people dancing to dirty sweaty beats. Nuff said!!

The place becomes a meeting spot for everyone, music policy is for everyone. The laid back atmosphere means everyone can relax and step back from the hustle of inner city life. The music moves from funky, jazz, soul, and gentle hip hop.
The Night time during the week features some of the best live bands, from funk to rock. On weekends, the club is host to some of the best club promotions with DJ's playing hiphop, house, breakbeats, drum'n'bass depending on the night.

"Plays the best in metal, alternative rock, Punk, Hardcore and hip hop. With an anything goes approach to its playlist, expect DJs Yoghurt and Riyad to drop everything from Decapitated to Queens Of The Stone Age, Anti Flag to Carcass, Sublime to Fugazi, Tool to Jurassic 5." - This place plays alternative tunes that people actually listen to and not the usuall monkeys on the decks, bananas on the playlist approach that most clubs suffer from. If your gonna play metal, dont fucking pussy foot around. Playing one token Pantera or Machine Head track then following it up with the same 3 hours of emo or standard Radio 1 indie that you played the previous 999 weeks does not an alternative club make! So if your experiencing problems with your local Rock club come done and see how it should be done. Then return home and inform your friends that indeed there are new metal bands recording albums and building fan bases and emo is not the only thing being released. This can only leed to paradise on earth or at least more varied playlists, speaking of which CHANGE THE TRACKS YOU PLAY EACH WEEK. As people wake up to whats really going on out there so the DJs will be forced to do their job and not carry out the evil plans of lazy music hacks. To coin a phrase "Emo's fine, JUST NOT ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... besides, we got new shit now" Rokit seems to have sorted out these obvious flaws and hence this is my fave club for rock alternative shenanigans, see you in the pit.
Mother Bar, Hoxton, London
Everyday
!!FREE!!
Mother bar is situated above club 333 next to Hoxton Square. The place has 2 rooms, the first being a bit quieter with tables and comfy stools then an open door at the end leeds to a larger room complete with dance floor, disco balls, inhouse DJ and 2nd bar area. Both rooms have nice views over Hoxton high street. It has a pretty eclectic DJ policy so any day of the week you can be suprised or horrified by the tunes blasting out. Allthough not one of my fave places due to the slightly preeny clientelle, I can allways enjoy turning up pretty ripped and hitting the dancefloor with friends at about 2am (usually after having left Herbal on a tuesday or wednesday). And this is why its in my list, Its a bar with a sizable dancefloor with people on it!!! Free entrance, good local DJs playing everything from Electro, House, Disco, Breakbeat, Angular Indie (bleugh!) very obscure pop, and what ever else is rokin the Hoxton Twat* collective that week. However I can't really complain, because if I dont like the tunes or crowd I can allways leave with no love lost and still have change for the 24 hour bagel shop on brick lane (mmm bagels). I suggest you try it for yourself, next time your passing through. And after all, its cheaper than a punch in the face =)

Crobar, 17 Manette St, London
6pm-11pm Sunday to Wednesday
6pm-3am Thursday to Saturday (£3 after 11pm)
One of the best rock, heavy blues bars in London. exellent juke box, friendly bar staff and great hairy beer fuelled atmosphere. Basically all you could hope for to kick start your night, wether it be a concert at the Astoria around the corner or Club Rockit around the other corner hah. It has a small front section with tables and seats then squeezes(!) down pass the bar leading to a moderatly sized back area with seats, but theyre usually taken! Its best to arrive early if you want to make an evening of it. Allways an eclectic mixed crowd of like minded metal/doom metal/Rockabilly/sludgecore/stoner rok peeps ready to air guitar at any given moment. Great for music related networking and finding random band members if your in need!
Garlic and Shots, 14 Frith Street, Soho, London
5pm-1am Monday-Saturday
Its all about the downstairs area! If you like your metal loud, abrasive and in your face (ha ha) then this place is puuuuurfect. Usually utterly packed, the small room is an oasis of extreme guitar music as the bar staff play their selection of tunes to an appreciative but eclectic crowd. This is another good starting point for rock related nights out or just a nice place to hang out and wallow in your fave extreme metal cuts!!!!!

These are 2 very good monthly psy nights in Brixton, ot has 2 rooms one playing full on and the other playing chill out. Allways a good crowd, crazy stairs though! There's also a cool mexican trance night they have there sometimes which is well worth a look.
Dragon Bar, old Street
Great Bar for beggining a night out in old street. Comfy seats, great atmosphere and good tunes. They usually have DJs perched at the bar from thursdays to saturdays playing Hip-hop, Breaks, D&B and other beats. I even heard them play Fu Manchu in there so extra kudos =)

George Monbiot
George Monbiot is the author of the best selling books The Age of Consent: a manifesto for a new world order and Captive State: the corporate takeover of Britain; as well as the investigative travel books Poisoned Arrows, Amazon Watershed and No Man’s Land. He writes a weekly column for the Guardian newspaper. This is an archive of his syndicated column about international and British politics and issues, arranged by topic.
During seven years of investigative journeys in Indonesia, Brazil and East Africa, he was shot at, beaten up by military police, shipwrecked and stung into a poisoned coma by hornets. He came back to work in Britain after being pronounced clinically dead in Lodwar General Hospital in north-western Kenya, having contracted cerebral malaria.
In Britain, he joined the roads protest movement. He was hospitalised by security guards, who drove a metal spike through his foot, smashing the middle bone. He helped to found The Land is Ours, which has occupied land all over the country, including 13 acres of prime real estate in Wandsworth belonging to the Guinness corporation and destined for a giant superstore. The protesters beat Guinness in court, built an eco-village and held onto the land for six months.
He has held visiting fellowships or professorships at the universities of Oxford (environmental policy), Bristol (philosophy), Keele (politics) and East London (environmental science). He is currently visiting professor of planning at Oxford Brookes University. In 1995 Nelson Mandela presented him with a United Nations Global 500 Award for outstanding environmental achievement. He has also won the Lloyds National Screenwriting Prize for his screenplay The Norwegian, a Sony Award for radio production, the Sir Peter Kent Award and the OneWorld National Press Award.

Quotes"If anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself... there's no fucking joke coming. You are Satan's spawn, filling the world with bile and garbage, you are fucked and you are fucking us. Kill yourselves - it's the only way to save your fucking soul." - Bill Hicks
"Let's remember November 30 and the days that followed as the launch of the Seattle Rebellion, the anti-corporate resistance that will reshape society in the next 10 years. It wasn't a skirmish or an opening salvo, but a manifesto etched in the streets by tens of thousands of people." - Adbusters
"Media concentration is high, and increasing. Furthermore, those who occupy managerial positions in the media...belong to the same privileged elites, and might be expected to share the perceptions, aspirations, and attitudes of their associates, reflecting their own class interests as well. Journalists entering the system are unlikely to make their way unless they conform to these ideological pressures" - Noam Chomsky
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety" - Benjamin Franklin
"...A lot of journalists come up and say whats the point [of coming to the rally]. Well I'll tell you what the point is. First time I came here was nearly 50 years ago, standing on this platform when Sir Antony Eden launched a war against Egypt - the Suez War - and a few months later Eden was out on his ear and we had a new Prime Minister. I was here in 1964, and I remember it very well, it was in support of a very well known terrorist and the next time I met him he had a Nobel Peace Prize and was President of South Africa, that was with the anti-apartheid movement! Trafalgar Square is the real parliament of this country!" - Tony Ben
"Though we are often faced with violence, we must never make the mistake of responding in kind. We must use every democratic tool available to us, to shame, expose and embarrass the governments which have merrily sold us down the river. But we must remain, in all respects, better than them." - George Monbiot
"If Hamdryas baboons had nuclear weapons, they would destroy the world in a week" - E.O. Wilson
