Influences:EVE SALVAIL
Widely-known for her film roles in Pret-a-Porter (1994), Unzipped (1995), The Fifth Element (1997), and Zoolander (2001), Quebec native Eve Salvail is best recognized for gracing many of the fashion world’s most celebrated catwalks around the globe as one of the top fashion models of the 1990’s. In fact, with her stunning beauty and some say shocking, tattooed baldness, Eve Salvail was once crowned with the distinction of transforming the generalized concept of beauty within the fashion industry.
With her revolutionary sense of style, Eve single-handedly changed the face of modeling forever, translating that success into several successful major film endeavors. Now, her very serious and successful venture as a high profile, celebrity DJ is showing us that she is as talented (and stunning) off the big screen and the catwalks, as she is on. What’s more, it is a further pronouncement of her uncanny ability to make her presence known, this time in an industry long governed by men.
Eve credits her inspiration to ‘man’ the decks by fellow genre-bending female djs who helped blaze the trails in New York City over a decade ago. Since then she has honed her own style and skills over the past several years, landing her gigs with some of the biggest clients in the world, including Tag Heuer, Conde Nast Traveler, Andre Balaz Properties, Zac Posen, OK! Magazine, Saks Fifth Avenue, and many more. As well, she is regularly spotted in the booths of some of the hottest clubs in New York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.
As for her sense of ‘renegade’ style translating to a dancefloor, Eve fuses together an eclectic variety of sounds, mixing Trance with Crunk, to straight up Punk, then to Rock – and even Reggae. And she has found a seamless way to blend her passion of 80’s Funk with 90’s Rap and today’s Hip Hop, creating a unique blend of energetically-infused party music. “I am like a mad scientist mixing chemicals in a laboratory,†she laughs, adding, “I go into a club with an idea of where we’re going to go, but how we get there is determined by the crowd, because what works one night may not work the next and that’s cool - there’s more than one path to the final destination.â€
Eve’s foray into the music industry is by no means new. By age 14 she was singing as the lead in bands, and in her early twenties was writing her own lyrics with the help of rocker pal Bryan Adams. But now her inspiration is the music she selects. “The dance floor is a blank canvas and I want to paint a picture,†explains Eve. “In my heart, I feel I was always meant to create. But I’m in no rush. It’s the journey that counts, and I plan to enjoy it one beat at a time.â€
