About Me

| View Show | Create Your OwnWelcome to my page. I am currently applying to grad school. I was born and raised in the South Bronx during the birth of hip hop. I remember when the burning of the South Bronx area took place. I remember seeing a picture of London, circa WWII, after it was bombed, in my history book. I looked at the picture thinking that is what Third Avenue looks like as I walk along with my grandmother to Hearns Department Store. If you know Hearns, then you are one of my peeps. I remember when my uncle took me to Claremont Avenue to get a glimpse of President Reagan visiting his "constituents" when it was a dumping ground. This was before the bi-level homes were built. I remember seeing a film crew building the "church set" for the film "Wolfen". I also remember the day when Paul Newman was at St. Anselms's--my elementary school--while he was shooting "Fort Apache--South Bronx". All the moms made a fuss. I remember he was rude and could not be bothered to take time out to say hello. Let's just say I don't buy Newmans' products or list any of his movies as my "favorites". For all those who saw that piece of "ish", the South Bronx is not like that at all. The South Bronx is a tough place to grow up in, but it had this vibe that was so cool. The vibe I am talking about is hip hop and that is what gave the South Bronx it's flava. When I saw Electric Boogaloo, at the Prospect Theatre, for the first time, and heard RUN DMC's "It's Like That", I was hooked and the love affair began. It was the same when I heard Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child", I was never the same. Both genres of music have been a part of my life for a long time. Just like the Lord, always there. I am a believer and follower of Christ, married, student, stepmom to three lovely young women, mother to two tween girls. Oh-oh, I think my hair is about to fall out--just kidding. This page is my voice to share my varied interests: music, movies, history, beliefs. Please feel free to stay awhile and chill. Take care and be blessed...Peace.Layout made by fainaru at CreateBlog.com .

Cool Stuff at BlingJam.com
This is from my friend, Mrs. G. I added some stuff to make it more personal. Enjoy. You, today's young person, wouldn't understand. Hey, what was the paper thing that you put on your fingers that had the colors inside? Then you picked a number, and then unfolded it to display the name of the person you liked? (four squares or some 'ish).Anyway.....Before WII, Playstation 1,2,and 3, video games, MySpace, cell phones, Internet, plasma screen tv's, HDTV, TIVO, DVR, CD's, DVD's back in the day, we had REAL fun. I'm talking about playing childhood games like hide and seek at dusk...red light, green light--123; red rover--red rover; ring around the rosie; London Bridge, before Fergie sang about it; hot potato; hop scotch; skelsies; jump rope; duck...duck...goose--you're it!; Mother, may I?; hula hoops, for practice, like S'more said, if you saw the "The Queens of Comedy", y'all know what I'm talkin' about. As a child, hanging out of your fire escape seeing shapes in the clouds. As children, running through the sprinklers on hot summer days. With your friends, running until you were out of breath. As a child, giving your friend a ride on the handlebars of your bike. With your friends, spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down giggling. The worst embarrassment was being picked last for any game. My scrapes and bruises were kissed by mom or grandma and made miraculously better. With my friends, playing kickball and dodgeball, stickball, until the first, no, second, no, third streetlight came on. Your parents stood on the front porch yelling and whistling for you to come home. This was before the pagers and cell phones were the norm. You were tired from PLAYING. All cereal boxes had that GREAT prize in the bottom. My favorite snack, Cracker Jacks, had the best prizes of all. I got the wedding ring once--just once! Walking with my mom and sister to purchase piraguas form the piragua man. I would run to get a coconut ice from the Coquito man. My favorite candies were Blow Pops, Pixie Sticks, Jolly Ranchers and Double Bubble bubble gum. With my daddy, buying ice cream from the Mr. Softee truck. With my grandma, going to the bodega, to get a ice pop with the two sticks. I would break it apart so I could share with my sister. At my grandma's, Kool-Aid was the drink of the summer. At my grandmother's house, I watched Saturday morning cartoons--Fat Albert, Josie and the Pussycats, the Pink Panther, School House Rock. As a child, my favorite tv programs were ABC Afterschool Specials, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Welcolm Back, Kotter--Hey, I'm Vinnie Barbarino... Every Sunday, I would go to Orchard Beach with my extended family. On Sunday, I would have a "million mosquito bites" and sticky fingers. As a child, swinging as high as I could to try and reach the sky and jump off the swing in mid-air. It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides at Palisades Park or Coney Island. With my sister, pillow fights and jumping on the bed. With my cousins, many sleepovers. A black and white TV in your room meant you were RICH! As a child, wearing your new shoes on the first day of school. As a child, rainy days, while in school meant playing heads up, 7UP or hangman in class. As a child, getting a foot of snow was a dream come true. The school field trips were not the same without eating soggy sandwiches. As a child, nearly everyone's mom was at home to greet their kids when they came home from school. As a child, when being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to what awaited you at home. As a tween, your first crush. The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties. As a child, WORK meant taking out the garbage or doing the dishes. This was a time when ANY parent could discipline ANY kid, or feed him, or use him to carry groceries. This was a time when nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it. There was no one prettier than my MOM. Our parents and grandparents were respected and feared! And some of us are still afraid of em! As a child, an older sibling(s) were your worst tormentor and your fiercest protector. As a child, water balloons were the ultimate, ultimate weapon. As a child, your abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog-dare". As a child, your decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo". As a child, your mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "Do over!" As a child, "race issues" meant arguing about who ran the fastest. As a child, money issues were handled by whoever was the banker playing Monopoly. It was not odd to have two or three "best" friends. As a child, you were old if you were over 20. So young people, please take time to reminisce over chilhood memories to see how much you have lived. For me, it has been quite a life.

Favorite TV Scene: Gilmore Girls - Season 1 - Sookie and Jackson

Favorite TV Dialogue: (Cut to Lorelai and Sookie walking down the street.)LORELAI: "Your boobs are bigger than mine"? I'm a mental case.SOOKIE: So apologize.LORELAI: I was too mad and stupid to apologize last night and she was gone before I got up this morning. What is wrong with me?SOOKIE: You're very possessive of your sweaters.LORELAI: Sookie.SOOKIE: No, I understand. I'm the same way. If somebody breathes too hard on my paring knife I'm like a crazy spider monkey.LORELAI: It's not about the sweater. It's about the golfing thing and the liking it thing. She had fun, Sookie. Just like my mother said she would.SOOKIE: Yeah, that's got to hurt.LORELAI: She should have fun. I mean, I want her to have a good relationship with her grandparents. Just because I don't doesn't mean she shouldn't, right?SOOKIE: Right.LORELAI: Right. So then why was I trying to get her out of Friday night dinner? I mean, what am I trying to do -- undermine their relationship?SOOKIE: No you weren't.LORELAI: Yes I was.SOOKIE: Yes you were.LORELAI: Yes! I'm four years old!SOOKIE: You're jealous.LORELAI: Oh I'm not jealous.SOOKIE: Yeah, you are. You're jealous 'cause they like Rory better than you.LORELAI: Oh thank you for the hug.SOOKIE: See, I'm bad at advice talks. Could we talk about soup? 'Cause I'm good with soup.LORELAI: Oh I'm sorry. You're fine. I'm all mixed up. I left that life, you know, the club, my parents. I ran from it as soon as I could. It just -- it never occurred to me that she might want it. It occurred to my mother though. God, I hate that she was right.SOOKIE: You don't know that she -- ooh! Oh my God!(Sookie spots something across the street. Without looking to see if any cars are coming she crosses the street, causing a guy to fall off his bike to avoid hitting her.)BIKE GUY: Hey, watch it!LORELAI: Oh! Aah! (to Bike Guy) Are you OK? OK.(Lorelai looks both ways before crossing the street to catch up to Sookie.)SOOKIE: (to strawberries) Look at you! You're beautiful!LORELAI: I have to be more adult about this. I mean, if the country club life is what she wants, more power to her, right? You know, little white gloves and coming-out parties. That makes some girls happy, right?SOOKIE: (while admiring the strawberries) Sure, yeah. If they're on Prozac, absolutely.LORELAI: I just never thought that I'd raise that kind of kid, you know? I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that kind of kid. I just never thought that was Rory. Maybe it's not. I don't know. Am I obsessing? Sookie? Hello? Do I have to put on my strawberry costume to get your full attention?SOOKIE: No, I'm sorry. You have a strawberry costume?(Jackson walks by and sees Sookie)JACKSON: Unbelievable!SOOKIE: Jackson!JACKSON: So this is what we've come to? You sneaking around behind my back buying somebody else's strawberries?SOOKIE: I was desperate!JACKSON: You disgust me!SOOKIE: I needed the strawberries!JACKSON: Well now you have 'em. I hope you're happy together.SOOKIE: Jackson -- wait!JACKSON: No!(Jackson walks away. Sookie follows him.)SOOKIE: Come on Jackson.JACKSON: No.SOOKIE: Jackson, we can talk about it.JACKSON: No.SOOKIE: Jackson, get back here!JACKSON: Get away from me!(Sookie chases him down the middle of the street where they almost get hit by a car.)
