ROOM 5 SATURDAY 12th of July - PLEASE COME!

About Me

Australian-born vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Libby Lavella now calls Los Angeles home. Once described by the LA Times as “pop soul fusion,” Libby’s sound has since grown and morphed into something too difficult to box into any particular genre, falling somewhere on the planes of the vast wilderness that is indie pop, retrospective folk and singer/songwriter. Her follow-up to her debut, Sponge Brain is due out now and is entitled Sometime In Morning. Sometime In Morning, produced by LA duo Heroes and Villains, was recorded in just under two months. Libby played keys, guitar and accordion on the album, enlisting the aid of Dave Palmer ..boards and piano, Billy Mohler on bass and guitar and Charlie Paxson on drums for some tracks. Three of the songs on the album were co-written with Joan Jones, an Angelino of wide renown with previous albums released by Epic and Hollywood records. “Joan and I were both in transition due to changing relationships of various natures,” Libby says. “We would hang out and write songs, drink wine and talk about life.” Melancholy, renewal, hope, and trust are all themes that Libby tackles wonderfully on her sophomore release. Sometime hardly comes across as hesitant. Libby leaves no punch held as she lets her enchanting soprano soar. Throughout her career, Libby has performed, toured and/or recorded with the legendary Frank Gambale (who is her Uncle), SmashMouth, Rain Phoenix, Badi Assad, Australian Mushroom recording artist Kate Ceberano, Dave Palmer, Shane Alexander and LA artist Joan Jones. In addition she recorded with the rap artist Big Syke of Tupac Shakur’s Thug Life group in an uncanny collaboration. (written by B.McKinney) Press: “Wispy piano, gentle guitars, and a huge voice allow the ruminative Lavella to fit comfortably in the company of such singer-songwriters as Sarah MacLachlan and Beth Orton.” - RetroLowFi “Evokes sympathetic lyrics mixed with soft instrumentations that will captivate listeners.” - Celebrity Cafe “A gifted vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with an ear for soundscapes.” - Bullz-Eye
